The Boxing thread

Also lost 3 plus years of his prime to politics. The only thing that detracts from Ali as a person imo was his belittling of Frasier, with the uncle Tom jibes. Unecessary and unpleasant.
Thought his press conference were good but now when you look back it’s a bit bad

I'm not sure frazier did beat ali, he also went 10 rounds with norton with a broken jaw when he could have took the 4 round rule and flopped on a win....asked why he never he said he couldnt stand to read the headlines after they frazier-shafted him... the norton jaw fight ended with a nutty white yank bird who'd been stalkin ali since his comeback...she burst through the crowd and screamed in ali's face 'kenny norton the new white heavyweight champion of the world" so delirious was she and indeed the general mood around ali...ali called her near suffering with his jaw like he was...and dundee said his retort to her white kenny norton shout was " miss velvet green, the most evilest bitch i have ever seen" ( shed sat ringside since his comeback in a velvet green suit).

I'm struggling to work out how anyone could possibly think hearns should have beat sugar at welter....the most fascinating thing about that fight was how leonard beat him to the jab.
I thought hearns was beating him in the first fight and he ended up gassing out round the 11th and the he rest is history I thin Second fight hearns beat him up but got robbed to a draw at middle I think .

Dundees famous line “ you’re blowing it kid “

Its worth evaluating that whyte going backwards through the air landing shouldblades first....is actualy a bigger fella than foreman....well done to fury for asking the ref to bring the curtain down.
With that upper cut? His head didnt even jerk back fully. It was a glancing blow was it not? Whyte was out of his depth fitness and skill wise, but that was a poor punch to get knocked out by imo.

I dont think size necessarily means you can take a punch or even throw one.

Earlier Shavers and M Tyson were both very small for heavy weights but both were incredibly big punchers.

Look at Joshua, massive guy but can't take a punch.

Ali could really take a punch, had a great chin but was so clever in his ability to roll back and avoid them especially early in his career, in fact he took too many especially later on. Frasier and Shavers gave him a torrid time with left hooks in his later career.

Quarry, Chuvalo, Holyfield and Marciano could all take a punch and all were small heavyweights.

Lewis and Vitali K could also take a punch but were bigger and generally fought bigger guys.

He had tommy off his feet more than once and had to tell the ref there was no money in the meter....tommy did well but it was a 15 round fight and he got found wanting . Leonard beating a 6'2 welter to the jab was majestic...so makestic steward told hearns to switch styles.

Whyte complain Fury shoved him over and it was his head hitting the canvas that knocked him out and he wants a rematch. He was well beaten and running on empty when he was knocked out in my opinion. Fury pushing him actually was a merciful act. He could have unleashed another couple of blows on him before he hit the canvas instead of shoving him away

The boxing cards this weekend from the US looks top class. Valdez v Stevenson will be a good fight as well will the Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano fight I dont know if they will clash times wise but the quality of the 2 fights are top class.

Is this on sky? Watching some boxing now, some boxer coming; not the ring with a guy singing rap next to him, he deserves to get beat just for that.
