Probably, but that doesn't explain how in 16 weeks the Conservatives have gone from dreaming of a third term, which with an 80-seat majority was realistic, to staring at electoral annihilation. Surreal. If you can do that damage to yourself, what can you do to the country?

Most of that damage had already been done though. They’re beginning to eat themselves trying to right the economic wrongs of Brexit without blaming it, whilst being bereft of all morality.

All depressingly true, it's just that I'm struggling to think of a precedent that comes anywhere close, I can't, and if this rate of implosion continues, then perhaps a General Election isn't unthinkable.
