I'm amazed no-one is challenging the idea that we need to impoverish people to stop demand. But it's people with no spare money who are struggling, not those with enough money to keep spending. If you can afford a night out, are you supposed to stay at home so strapped for cash pubs and restaurants tell employees they can't have a less-than-inflation pay rise. Will the supermarkets reduce profit margins to keep prices down?
