The Conservative Party

I just thought I’d have a quick look at what the brains trust on here made of today’s GDP revisions, showing of course the UK economy to have performed better than both France and Germany since the pandemic, and proving again just how much the initial growth estimates tend to understate UK growth. Sadly however I haven’t seen any comments.

The revisions since the pandemic were of course signalled a couple of weeks ago - startling as they are, particularly in relation to Germany’s very poor performance - but the good news today is the stronger figure for the first quarter of this year as well.

I know how much people on here liked to reference the lack of any UK growth since the pandemic, and of course how the UK compared so poorly to France and Germany - even Russia according to some posters - so I’m keen to hear their thoughts.

Have a great day.

I leave these here for your consumption.

I did note the revisions. Here is the link to Reuters on the subject.

German figures are no surprise given the loss of access to Russian gas. Taking in over a million Ukrainian refugees will also have a short term impact - although as some will settle in Germany that negative impact will likely reverse over time.

Countries outside of Europe did far better, but given there is a major war been fought on European soil this is not a huge surprise.

Finally, from the article:

Friday's figures are unlikely to be the final word on the topic, however, with other countries also in the process of revising their data.’

None of this is going to move the dial. The Tories have descended into internet crank territory, devoid of talent, ideas and competence. Shifting through the shit for a glimmer of gold ain‘t going to cut it.
