The mention of 15 minute cities was a concern. That's taken a real hold in the post-covid conspiracy world, and is the kind of thing you'd expect from some of the more dangerous US Republicans.

There are many in the Tory party who would welcome our democracy heading the way of the US, which is a scary thought.

The PM is about to make it government policy that you DONT have a shop, GP, dentist, train/bus stop near your house.

Something like PMQs. Starmer reads out a letter from little old lady. 85 y/o, had to stop driving because of glaucoma, concern that the government is going to stop her having the necessities she needs to live within walking distance. Cant afford taxis to the doctor. Can only walk about 10 mins to the bus to see her grandkids. Walking to the shop is her only exercise.

Make him explain how stupid it is.

Make him explain why it’s a bad thing.

You can’t do it without sounding insane, because the conspiracy is that the government is going to build walls around them and not let us leave.


By the way, if anyone at conservative HQ thought about it, the fact the government - their government- is the bad guy in the conspiracy is exactly why the government can never win these peoples votes any way.

I cannot comprehend of anyone who still supports them and who will vote for them and who will expect their lives to be improved by them.

Having ran the numbers, the Tories suffer a 2pt swing against them every election cycle just on demographics alone. That will get continually worse until either:

1) they start suddenly attracting more new young voters than any other party - maybe they can try for that in 2060
2) young people become more conservative with age - not currently happening

According to YouGovs Raw data from their latest poll on voting intention for the next election (if you don’t modify for Don’t Knows) the Tories are polling at <10% with the entire under 50s.

I’m not one for bold predictions, but I think if they lose this election (as seems incredibly likely) they will never win an election ever again - the demographic shift won’t allow it. There is no coming back from what they have wrought against young people in this country. They are utterly doomed.

I wish it worked that way but it doesn't, generally speaking governments lose elections rather than oppositions winning. People have short memories and are mainly voting out of self interest.

They will rightly get a huge kicking next time and then they will rebrand themselves and hope for economic woes and Labour cock ups.

Hopefully I'm wrong and we will never see them back in power for a long long time

Does this not prove though that comparing countries by GDP growth rate is completely pointless?

Norway has a much smaller GDP and a slow rate of growth right now. The US and China meanwhile are the largest economies and have high growth rates but would you rather live in those countries or in Norway?

As a country and as voters we need to stop attaching economic performance and wellbeing to GDP. We need to grow smart and not grow fast and in fact not growing at all is better if that assures the wellbeing of the population.

Unfortunately at the moment UK economic policy is to batter the population AND have shit growth.

I wish it worked that way but it doesn't, generally speaking governments lose elections rather than oppositions winning. People have short memories and are mainly voting out of self interest.

Their voters are dying out. Apart from the people on sink estates with no teeth (that usually don't vote anyway) racists don't breed as heavily as immigrants either.

This is true but the also have a different model of their economy. Unfortunately without large structural change, growth is required to stand still in Anglosphere robber-baron economies.
