Well, quite. More clerks at £35k a year processing applications and you wouldn't need judges hearing appeals at £135k a year.

Not even that, D and E bands on £24 to £30 grand to process claims, just needs one C2 or 1 to sign it off.

Saying that, with the government trying to scrap a further 70,000 CS, it looks like they don’t want to process any further claims.

They‘re burning what’s left of this country, hopefully the public can see what’s happening and hold them to account in the elections.

I know that’s tongue in cheek but you’ll get met with “France is a safe country” and you end up arguing in some orbit of other. It’s a narrative that needs consigning to the history books.

Most Brits are fair and devoid of extreme ideologies which is why central politics tend to win elections. I’m sure if someone said we need to take our fair share the majority would be happy with that. Maybe an easy win here would be to agree to take a certain percentage from those granted asylum within the EU. France is surely going to be more inclined to process people if they don’t think they’ll have to house them themselves.

The Tories are trying to appease a more right wing electorate - probably trying to shore up the reform vote - unsavoury and desperate but given their polling you can see why they are. I hope we end up with some sensible policy ideas post election.

I tried to check but the Home Office isn't currently recruiting asylum officers. Just judges. To the questions about putting judges on asylum cases when the backlog for criminal trials is horrendous, the response was that they're different specialisms. So there must be lots of asylum-experienced judges currently doing nothing, or they're just lying again.
