How does this give us security?

It doesn’t. Lead sim has got ‘assurances’ that not many jobs will go, the new company will ‘be sensitive’ about British data and will have a base in the UK. A bit like all the assurances Kraft gave when it took over Cadbury.
So, going forward, ARM has gone to the Japanese, the national grid has gone to the Chinese and Qatar, the new nuclear plants are being built by the french and Chinese, the steel industry is owned by the Chinese, our water is owned by a myriad of overseas investors, the Americans have now bought Cobham, the train companies are mostly run by foreign government companies. Heathrow and Gatwick, foreign owned.
Social care companies, bought by US companies, loaded with debt, closed down and uk government have to try to close the shortfall in provision.
Taking back control of what? What’s telling is that the French, the Germans, the Americans and the Chinese just wouldn’t allow any sale of areas even half this sensitive and yet we just agree to anything.

Yeah, but we still own Weatherspoons!

It’s incredibly hard to turn down a role paying millions to be universally hated whilst trying to do the right thing on £80k.

These people need to be the best and therefore they should be paid well.

80k is plenty . These people should have first been successful outside of politics and be doing this as a form of public service as a means of making the country better. How many successful entrepreneurs who have sold their business go into politics. Not many.

far too many career politicians especially in the Labour Party , that’s why they struggle to understand what really bothers the workers of the uk.

I respectfully disagree.

I’m not saying make them millionaires but £80k a year isn’t going to convince everyone with exceptional talents, to come and run the country.

It’s also why the criticisms of the likes of Jarvis are unfounded in my opinion, the bloke could be earning millions elsewhere.

That’s ok, I just would like more people who have made their money and are comfortable go into politics , not for the money but because they do actually see it as a public duty. We don’t need loads of them just more of a smattering than we have now , people who have done things outside politics had life experience which would help. At the moment successful people get bounced into the lords and they are often wasted in there,

at the moment there are far too many career politicians in the house.

I will avoid all politics threads except this one. Just to say nice to see Boris fly out and serve breakfast to the soldiers. Class touch.

Whatever you think of him he has worked bloody hard this last couple of months.
