The Conservative Party

Good point.

Shapps is a weasel, with quite a track record of shady business (his wikipedia page is a hoot), and benefits from not being Grayling.

one of the funniest things about that is if his Wiki page is a hoot wasn't one of the "charges" levelled at him was faking parts of his own Wiki page? Does it say one of his other names that he used was Neil Armstrong and he was first man to walk on the moon? That level of being a hoot !!?? In the past when the press was a little more balanced he'd have been the new Jeffrey Archer and been ran out of town on a rail for his story telling

I agree with that but unfortunately electrification on some routes will never make financial sense (e.g. lines in far north Scotland or mid Wales, or Settle-Carlisle).

However, on some routes there might be other options, such as introducing diesel/battery hybrids or (in future) hydrogen powered trains.

e.g. From 2021 Transport for Wales are introducing diesel/battery hybrid trains on the Borderlands route (Wrexham-Bidston on the Wirral). These will be former London tube trains that are completely refurbished. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_230#Transport_for_Wales

Merseyrail are apparently looking at potentially using similar technology to extend the existing service that currently runs to Ellesmere Port to extend the service down to Helsby on the Chester-Warrington line.

This is only one issue of which there are many such as capacity Andy Burnham's comments on the Northern Rail were interesting like the fact that too many trains are coming in to piccadilly station and this needs to be addressed. I know that there was talk off re opening the old station near Victoria warehouses to address this but I guess that this has been kicked into touch due to cost and Manchester being tough far from the home counties to be arsed about,

I see the Tories are nationalising Northern Rail.
I wonder how many other socialist Labour policies they're going to copy?

Yes they are looking to delete from the timetable at least 2 trains per hour using platforms 13/14 thru to Oxford Rd etc.

Potential casualties include the East Midlands train service from Nottingham to Liverpool (e.g. it could terminate in the main shed at Piccadilly instead of carrying on to Liverpool) and the TfW service from Llandudno to Manchester airport (which could be diverted to terminate instead at Victoria).

We'll have to wait and see what happens. However loses out will make a lot of noise about it...

Now it sounds like you sound like a bit of a spotter or someone who works for railways because you know far too much about this?

Not a spotter but I work in the arenas of energy and transport infrastructure, development and planning.
Is that you?
