The Conservative Party

That’s the one and his rhetoric went some way to confirm how the government want to shape the next generation, starting with the T-level, which will finish up as some bargain basement qualification that will lead to our youngsters being able to make a nice brew.

Following his interview it was good to hear from people who were at the front of the fight, saying that what he was proposing was nowhere near what was needed and more to do with setting targets rather then funding the issues. Basically, do better with what you’ve got or we’ll mark you down in your annual audits, probably cut funding where it’s most needed.

Ta, the bit I saw really was all about him and how hard he'd worked to extract some money. It's too early to tell much. After his Commons speech, the BBC had someone from education also saying that it didn't amount to a whole hill of beans.

The sale of the National Grid infrastructure to an Australian Investment firm for £9.6 billion is ''what else'' ....

Has your standing charge gone up?

Hadn't heard that. Just reading up on the Vampire Kangaroo. Owned Thames Water for 11 years, 3 Bn in dividends paid, loaded 10 Bn debt on the company and paid no corporation tax.

6 Bn sale of 60% of the gas network. So the Aussies own the gas and the French own chunks of the electric. I don't know why National Grid needed an external majority partner.

How many of these are skilled positions though and not vacancies for the thousands of foreign workers who left during COVID? There's loads of shops, bars and restaurants out there with vacancy signs, I haven't seen that for yonks. It won't necessarily be the worst thing as pay should become really competitive which is needed with living costs going up.

I think the hardest thing at the moment is getting experienced people. Our place took a record number of apprentices this year because basically the demographic is most of the workforce will be retired in 10 years time and the job market lacks people with experience.

My lad got a First 4 years ago - he has had 2 promotions in management positions where he works in the last 12 months - his degree is always cited as a reason why they want him to stay with them and progress

When I joined the railway it was a place where as long as you passed the relevant tests you got the role. Regardless of academics or your background.

Elitism is now creeping in. HR have "group standards" that train drivers must be "Up to a degree standard in education."

Some who are drivers now wouldn't have got the job under these new rules. They literally started as Carriage Cleaners and worked their way up.

The workers are being torified. The Bastards know this and will call us out soon to defend our pensions. Expect the drip feed shortly about "gold plated pensions hampering any railway investment..."

My industry is about to face it's miners strike. Whether theres enough people willing to fight cuts is a different matter.

which has worked so well in the Police hasn't it? A load of clueless graduates in the "lead" roles recruiting rapists and murderers

According to Shapps, the email form P&O about sacking all their ferryworkers didn't actually get forwarded to the Transport Secretary.
He said that he only heard about the sacking when the video broke and while he was in the House of Commons.

How can the Transport Secretary not get told?
The bus never turned up...

Yours is a highly paid job compared to many so aligning it to academia seems normal for what the Conservatives want.

Hope it works out with the pension business. We’ve had ours changed twice in the last 20 years and, as always, it’s never for the better.

I know her dad died from a punch but f*ck me, this is OTT. It was a "slap" and not a punch, attention seeking melt.

Shouldn't she focus on tackling spiraling cost of living and address her own government hiking taxes. Daft cow

Presume she wrote this hot on the heels of the letters that she wrote to the Met about the treatment of child Q and to the head of P&O Ferries about the sacking of 800 British workers....................??

People who have never done a job telling you who is doing the job where you are going wrong ............
Worse are those who can do some elements of your job judging you on how you do all elements of your job.
And managers who are only in place because they blindly promote the crap requested by senior managers and directors. Spending all their time in meetings away from the real world.
I retire on at the end of the month and can't wait to get away from all the corporate bullshit.
When people ask what my company does I'm often tempted to say "enrich the lives of consultants over every decision they fucking make."

Leaving work was the best thing I ever did.

The discussion tonight reminds me of management "fixing" a long hours issue. We were all pissed off that you were working until late after a day on the road doing reports and making calls. Then you had to upload stuff. Their answer was ( at the time ) the new fangled 3g dongles. You could do the work in the car ! Of course how stupid we were. The fact that depended on whether you could get a signal and the act of logging in via the dongle rather than going home and logging in directly took marginally longer was just ignored. As a result every complaint of " I am contracted to work 35 hours a week but am doing minimum 50" was met with " but why you have a dongle?" A problem fixed by someone who didn't understand it and didn't actually use the fix they supplied. Several were promoted of took lucrative jobs elsewhere on the back of such a "success"

Thoroughly enjoying watching people finally waking up to just how shit sunek is. All that crap lauding him over the furlough scheme etc. Any idiot could have come up with that, just spunk shitloads of public money at the problem and in the short term it goes away. My mrs works for HMRC and her division were told no when they instantly asked for a week to put the anti-fraud policies in place to go with the furlough scheme. They were told it's being rolled out straight away, the policies aren't needed. Billions of pounds of fraud later, i'd say they were proved right. Inflation has been allowed to spiral completely out of control and the balance of wealth keeps getting worse. He's shit.

two points -

1/ he is a Brexiteer Johnson loyalist
2/ it wasn't public money it was money BORROWED in the public name.

Remember when Gordon Brown was castigated for bailing banks out? Also bear in mind that people like me never got anything out of this Govt - 3m people who were earning just cast adrift mostly because they made music or painted pictures of lit up stages rather than moved money around or made stuff............. if you were a bin man, bus driver or shop worker then shut the fuck up and go to work...........I saw theough his smoke and mirrors from the start coz as I say he didn't help me and 3 members of my immediate family were told they were essential - despite being on minimum wage - and told to go to work.
