The Conservative Party

For me, the fundamental issue is our pitifully anachronistic electoral system that allows the party which the majority of those that voted did not wish for, to do what the fuck it wants for five years. It may, on occasions, produce strong government, but that doesn’t mean it produces competent ones; far from it.

The problem is that when Labour were lording it iver the Tories they did fuck all about it - because our political culture is rooted in self-interest, as is human nature tbf.

We’ll keep getting shit, career politicians, shit governments, the downward spiral continues - but don’t worry because we don’t have unstable governments like Italy did 50 years ago.

Our electoral system is the principal constant that runs through our inexorable (if faltering) decline as a nation since WW2 and yet there seems an astonishing lack of will to even consider changing it, even among Labour voters whose party hasn’t won a majority for over 15 years.

Why is it right that a party that secures significantly less than half the votes can do what it wants for half a decade - and why can’t people see that this is the principal reason we are failing politically, and more generally, as a nation?

in the meantime, the Tories will continue to be cunts and fuck all will be done about it.

To change it you have to be in power, once you are in power you don’t want to change it.

Plus the public keep voting for fptp parties because they are daft.

So true - in the unlikely event that the LD's were to win a GE and get an 80 seat majority ( I know - bear with ) then I wouldn't mind betting their fondness for a change to the voting system would disappear too. I am sure they would find more pressing things that needed their attention and move it down the batting order even if it had been their main plank in their manifesto.

You are correct. The only way I can see it happening is if Labour do the decent thing and put it into their manifesto then get in with a coalition govt.

The move would fuck up the Tories much more than Labour.

An interesting account of how certain people in and around our current government got into the position they're in.

Kind of a spoken version of the article he wrote the other day, but it goes into a bit more of the colonial past of some of the people who are currently in the House of Lords.

Just saying what we all know - in a matter of months Johnson has reduced this country to a corrupt banana republic

Another caring Tory bastard.
One of the reasons why the Tories won the last election was because they reached out to supporters of the Brexit Party/ UKIP. Unfortunately they are now paying the price because they now have a number of MPs in their ranks who are more aligned with the Brexit party or UKIP rather than the Tory Party.

Why did they win the three before that?
