Their biggest ally will be voter apathy.
 
IDS claiming as politics the idea that a thinktank theoretical discussion (e.g. meat tax) can be cited as something they are against and implying (or outright claiming) that Labour are in favour of it. Presumably a Labour-associated person has passed a comment on it.

It's more plain dishonest in the whole basis, but IDS seemed very pleased with himself and the idea.

oh I wish ........ nope from a semi in windy North Yorkshire ...... I was denied my dream of retirement in the sun somewhere by a couple of months when FoM was finally introduced

They know that there’s a sizeable minority that believe any old shit that they hear if it fits their world view. These are people that never used to vote because they couldn’t be arsed or thought that it makes no difference. Social media indoctrination has brought this part of the electorate to the ballot box and the parties that tell them what they want to hear and fits in with their prejudices whether it’s true or a lie (and it’s nearly always lies) will get their vote.
