The cool cats

@nw42

It was exciting in a wierd shit yer pants way I agree. I loved City so went when I could anyway.

Footy is so much better nowadays, but I appreciate it more having seen the dark days.

Saying that was chatting to Tony ONeill a while back and he told me that some of the violence at our league cup semi was the worst he had seen

As a result of this thread I've started listening to Squeeze again. They really were quite good in parts.

Well the thread has served some purpose then, good shout. Still well worth making the effort to see live, this is their favourite song, one of my favourites too.

Well he's seen as much as anyone, so I'd be inclined to take his word for it.

Well Mr Cheetham hill blue, that's a grossly inaccurate summing up of my City supporting career. Not that it's any of your business, but, I started going in 77/78. I went to a lot of aways in those days with my mum and dad. A mugs game , surely. I never said I hadn't been caught in trouble. Only that in my opinion, it was USUALLY avoidable.

Probably the reason you avoided most of the trouble then Most who went didn't have their Mater & Pater to hold their hands and ward off the evil out of towners. A group of lads were usually set upon whether they wanted it or not. I bet you saw more action being flogged at your public school.

"especially for one so bright"

Must say you're very good at impressions pal. Who said you were bright? Mummy and Daddy on the way back from Maine Road?
Pathetic ! Can't win the argument so I'll resort to slagging a seven year old kid off _ for being seven. I suppose you were already "kool" at seven ? More ridiculous assumptions. Public school ? Here endeth the discussion with you. Truly pathetic.

Then stop going on like a 7 year old. ;-)
Accept this is what happened at the time whether you wanted it or not (unless you went with your mam) and i've not once glorified it.
You come across as a tad pompous, if you don't mind me saying. If this is your final word on this thread, i can hear a collective sigh and the words 'Thank fook' from more than one poster on here.
Laters.

Dunno about "cool" but fighting in gangs is certainly for pussies
Careful mate ! You'll be ostracised for that. How dare you have an opinion that isn't the same as some people who knew some other people who were in a gang and had some fights ? You'll have some brain-dead clown who knows nothing about you and has never met you calling you a liar next . You have been warned !

You can see that your natural tendency here has been to gravitate towards someone you feel has shown that similarities of opinion with your own.
You are forming the first bonds of a group with mutual aims.
You have been attacked, so have a natural desire to gather like-minded types around you.
A common outlook and safety in numbers to start with. But as more anti-gang gang members join, you will find that there is a wider consensus, with possibly more extreme views in how to make your case - then possibly a rogue element to your group.
One which rather than just defends the cause, takes pre-emptive strikes and gets your retaliation in first.
Its not unusual at this stage to feel a need to identify yourselves and your cause to like-minded types and others who oppose you - you select a name - you are the uncool codgers.
Lets have it.

Anybody remember going to Ipswich in the 80's, they had a mob of girls (term used lightly...!) who wore Doc Martins and caused trouble, scary sight I tell you, rather fook them than fight them as they say....!!

We ran into them in a pub after the game once
One of them tried to headbutt me she didn't look to cocky once I chinned her.
A couple of her mates were than all gobbing off about not hitting girls the irony seemed to pass them by.
They got away with murder because a lot of blokes wouldn't hit them but as I pointed out if you are big enough to hit a bloke you are big enough to be hit by one

All hell broke loose and a few lads in the pub had a go as well but hey we were in an away pub and that was enough in them days, good good times though wouldn't change them but wouldn't necessarily want to go back either.

That's the nature of the game, anyone who's done as much as him over the years will have been on the deck at some point, doubt it bothered him that much.
