The Curious Case of Dele Alli | Emotional Overlap interview (p 19)

Fair play to him, a big step to talk like this and I’m not the type that normally approves of modern day approaches to this, but in his case it’s extremely relevant.

Fuck the papers, he only did this because they threatened to put him for being in rehab.

That's the thing isn't it? Again.

You can see in the interview that he isn't quite there yet. He rarely looks at Neville when talking and he broke down as well. He is still laughing nervously and smiling to hide the pain that is still there. But he had to do it now or the fucking press would have had him plastered over the front pages. He clearly needs some more time.

It's absolutely depressing how fucked up the press is.

As for the guy himself, I wish him only the best. A terrible childhood that severely affected probably the only skill he has. Hope he gets back up there.

And for Neville, I may not like the guy but he handled a difficult interview well, I think. Still a ****, though.

It's hard whan the one thing you are good at and enjoy is affected by things outside your control.
It seems clear to me the lad has had a mental breakdown and is it any wonder?
What tipped him over the edge who knows, it may have been something quite trivial in our eyes - the straw that broke the camels' back.
I will say this about the media.
When you are living your life in the public eye, the media want their pound of flesh, they are after a story because it's their job. They often take emotion out of the equation, in fact some journos don't appear to have any emotion or decorum whatsoever. Who they might offend does not matter to them and that type of person is borderline psychopath imo.
As an example, the s*n is sold in very few places in Liverpool as a direct result of what happened at Hillsborough. At the match that day was a man sitting in the stands who watched his two lovely daughters crushed to death against the wire fence. On the front page of that publication was a big picture of those two lovely girls in obvious distress as they were having the life crushed out of them. That picture although from a long time past, still
enters my mind, albeit very rarely.
Other examples of crass journalism that come to mind are the coverage of the death of Princess Diana and celebrities who are doing and have tried to do a bit of good in the world being cynically attacked because of character defects or which team they happen to turn out for.
So back to Delli Alli.
I wish him all the best in his battle against his demons and hope that he is successful in defeating, or at least keeping them under his control and can make a return to the pitch before too long.

Bravo. Absolutely spot on.

They can’t help it. It’s too easy to be idiotic when all that is between them and this is a keyboard. Far too easy.

Glad to see the grown ups in this matter.

Come on though, just for a sec, this thread is nothing to do with Neville by the way,but being as he’s mentioned on several occasions and by yourself I’ll pose you this quick question

I’m presuming (which isn’t always good thing to do especially on here), that you are roughly around the same age as me,do you not consider Neville to be the most hated and despised rag there’s ever been in our era ?

I speak for myself and many others who are of this mindset anyway,so him suddenly becoming a Jeremy Paxman isn’t going to win over too many blues surely to fuck

I remember what he said and how he portrayed us over the years,so he can fuck right off for me

Don't normally write things like this, but the tabloids really do have blood on their hands.
Alli was trying to process so much and had just come out of rehab, yet they were threatening to break the story.
Now that really is low level scum.

And if anyone needs reminding how vile these editors are, then listen to Kelvin MacKenzie's interview wit Rachel Burden on 5LIve Breakfast.
He was trying to justify the sun's story on Huw Edwards.
When questioned on evidence (that any legal wrong-doing had taken place) he argued back had she (Rachel Burden) got any real proof that it hadn't and that Edwards had fueled a young person's drug addiction, so that was in the public interest.
By coming out and giving his story Delli Alli has taken away the 'threat' from the journos that was in essence 'blackmail'.

Came on to say the same. You never know what anyone is going through.

That is a rough, tough childhood. There is little wonder he’s never found a club he can call home. How can you settle in any walk of life after enduring all that?

For his sake I hope he can use this to help mental health, somehow banish some demons and make a career out of what time he has left. It would be fantastic to see that happen to him.
Think he probably did find a home for a while, first with Milton Keynes, and then in the first half of his time at Spurs. It fell apart at Spurs in the end, but I recon he was some kind of comfortable there up til that point.

Knew there was more to the story, horrible that the gutter press have forced his hand, but ironically it might be of great benefit to him they did, now that he’s been able to open up in this way.

Hope that he becomes settled on Merseyside for his own sake, and I hope he get’s back to at least his prior top level, in both footballing and personal terms.

Have a great coming season Dele. Top, stellar man for having achieved all you have done til now and battling your demons at the same time.

I honestly hope the Toffee’s win one of the cups this year now, with Dele playing a huge part and getting the plaudits (so long as we win the league and other cup :p)

It’s got nothing to do with united, and especially nothing to do with City.

I’m 52. I can very easily separate my hatred for the Neville who fed the Goat for the Neville who is seen here interview young man who is bearing all. I’ll even add him touching his leg is comforting said young man who is in bits, rather than say it’s creepy just to get an inexcusable dig in at the rag.

It isn’t difficult.
