The day we became Winners was not yesterday

The day we became winners was at Wembley in April of last year. That should go down as the Gillingham-type turning point for modern day Manchester City. When Yaya put the ball in the Man United net a sense of belief surged through our whole club.

We've never looked back since then.

First we took their banner.
Yesterday we took their dignity
In May we will take their trophy.

I just had to fight very hard to hold back some sort of tribal war cry in the office.

Amen.

have to agree with the sentiment here

we discussed long into the night which was the sweetest victory
16th April 2011
or
23rd October 2011

i've got my fingers crossed for a new comparison from

28th April 2012

That's how I am Trev.

I can't stop smiling and talking about it. Just want to do a jig.

I've followed the blues since 1976 and yesterday was the best result of them all.

I thought it would never get better than Gillingham. I think it just did.

i feel the time we grew in to winners were actually not wins.
the defeat to arsenal at our place when boyota got sent off made me very proud, we did very well and should never have lost.
the other was arsenal away last year, 0-0, we we put on a brilliant back to the wall grab a point display.

both games showed the committment of the squad to the greater cause.

I'm glad you posted that. That is EXACTLY how i look at it. Our performance against arsenal with 10 men was exceptional, then defending like a team at the emirates showing a togetherness that was so resolute, we could've played for 90 hours nevermind minutes and still not ship a goal. Also our owner and his board for showing balls and dumping clueless leslie and installing Bobby, to take us to the next level, must also not be forgotten.

Oh btw, great post dave.

You may fool this lot but you don't fool me Mr De Niro. I was sat next to you in that game and you moaned like fuck for 90 minutes about our performance.
Hindsight can give perspective, though.

The first step in a winning mentality is a refusal to lose when overmatched. The next step is expecting to win against teams you should win against without succumbing to listless overconfidence. The final step is learning to be completely ruthless. The draw against Fulham and the loss in Munich are positives in hindsight just as that 0-0 draw in London against Arsenal.

Spot on although it's taken a while for everyone to sing from the same sheet.

Not everyone is blessed with foresight matey.

It's nice everyone can see it now though.

I think there are two separate issues here. The semi final gave us belief within the camp that we could go on and achieve great things, and that was crucial. It was a springboard to winning the Cup and claiming an automatic CL place, which in turn increase confidence further - a virtuous circle, if you like.

In terms of convincing the wider world, however, yesterday was a hell of a statement. Before yesterday, there were quite a number of people in the game and in the media who were saying that we still have long way to go. However, it's very difficult for anyone to argue that we don't deserve to be taken seriously when we win 6-1 at Old Trafford.

If we do go on to achieve great things - and we really do look as though we could be on the cusp of doing so - then I think you could draw a comparison with our last side to win multiple trophies. The semi final is like the December 1967 hammering of Spurs in that it engendered belief we could take on the best and win. Yesterday is like the win at Old Trafford in March 1968 in terms of showing even our critics that we realy are a top team.

By the way, if we're talking about individuals who made a key contribution to the City cause, how about Dimitar Berbatov? Who knows what would have happened had he stuck away one of those two great chances he had in less than a minute at the start of the semi final?!
