The Dj, music production and synthesiser thread

yes! don't DJ, but I own a Korg Minilogue, Monologue, R3, Roland JU-06a and a TR-8S. it's basically kept me sane for the past 7 months

I have all the gear but no idea lol. I just mess about really and should take it a bit more seriously.
Got a Digitakt, Digitone, Nord Rack 2, Yamaha An1x, Roland Tr8 and a few of the Behringer knock offs.

I'm relatively new to this. Been playing the bass guitar for over 30 years but started buying synth gear about 3 years ago and fallen in love with it. As for your gear, heard very good things about the Digitakt and the Digitone but never used either.

Next on my list for gear, getting a BOSS MD-500 modulation pedal to stick on my minilogue. Got the DD-500 delay pedal for my monologue (my favourite synth, even if it's the cheapest) and the two of them work incredibly together.

An get yourself a spare bedroom as you’ll get the vinyl bug of buying and need to keep them stored upright.

I had the vinyl bug for a couple of years around 95-98 but the poverty of my last year of Uni followed by wanting to go and then going travelling put an end to my Vinyl collecting.

I had a set of those cheap ass belt drive imitation 1210 and a basic mixer. But it was all you needed. No more than the basic level of expenditure was made - the cash went on vinyl and clubbing.

If i could have a quiet word with my 15 year old self I would say spend a bit less on the clubbing and focus the vinyl collection. And then take it with you travelling - I did end up dj'ing a couple of nights in a nightclub in France using the rack of CDs in the club - awful.

It’s good to see other blues having the same music background ie around the same ages or around the mid 90’s great reading

I've been on a couple of compilations albums in the past, but getting my first performance on vinyl coming out soon on some obscure italian label apparently. I'm very close friends with a guy called Ali Renault, grew up together. He's a music producer/DJ etc and put a bassline down for him a couple of months ago which he morphed into something completely unrecognisable. Proper dirty horror techno stuff. Not my tune but dead chuffed I'm finally going to be vinyl.

As for my own synth stuff, I'm working with 2 mates from here in mcr. Not got any plans to 'make it' or bollocks like that, 2 of us are in our 40s and have kids, just doing it purely for the enjoyment. At the risk of people thinking it's shite, here's one of the first tracks we completed. More incoming soon when we finish them:

Always wanted one of these threads :-)

Ive been in bands for years....from i was about 15 (im 45 next week). Have had some moderate (ie none) success over the years.

I DJ'd alot '93-96...mostly american house stuff....Belfast had a small but brilliant house and techno scene back then....but as a guitarist i gravitated back into bands

My first proper band got a publishing deal in '96 and we were lucky enough to record in Edwyn Collins' studio in London...produced and recorded by ex Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook.

That died off around 2000 but got back into it around 2005 and my next band did ALOT of gigging...supported a lot of touring bands and we went on to do a small tour with Ash in 2007.

Was in a couple of other bands in recent years....my last live gig was in the Cavern in Liverpool as part of a mod weekender...2017

In between all these bands ive always produced my own music...mostly electronic based...but still kinda rock orientated. I finished this track during the summer....

Enjoying this lad, nice one. Got a Public Service Broadcasting sound to it, which is definitely a good thing in my book.

Got a lot of mates from Belfast and all who were bang into the club scene around the same time. We almost certainly know a few of the same people. David Holmes's night was always the one everyone banged on about. Shake yer brain?

Yep...his main nights were Sugar Sweet and then Shake Ya Brain after that....pretty much went to everyone of them

I know Homer pretty well...lives round the corner from me.

If your mates went to the Art College (where those club nights were) and are roughly the same age as me 45-55 then im confident i'll either know them, or have met them in some way :-)

Belfast is small...and back then the scene was tiny....amazing place to grow up, despite what was going on

Yeah, you will, I'm 45. A lot of them are from east belfast as well.
