The downside to the internet

I bet the internet is responsible for a lot of people having affairs and marriage splits. Suppose that could be a good thing in some cases.

Online gambling! Just too easy to waste my money. Been off work for 3 weeks for shutdown and it's all I've done. Can't wait to get back Monday.

A few disagreements to this comment but I understand exactly his point and agree entirely.

I've been using the net since I was 8yrs old (now 28)
The amount of knowledge I've learnt from content online.
Many new friendships and some relationships formed.
Jobs found online.

I practically live my life online.
Obviously I exercise and so on offline but even finding things like gym routines was done online.

I moved house two week back, and whilst having a clear out, I found a VHS cassette. It's got 'Gypsy' and 'Sensual Pleasure' written on it. Now that's a symbol of what life without the internet was like. Porn was like Hens teeth. You had your favourites. You knew every stroke and groan from those films. Nowadays you can watch anything without even trying. God knows what it must be like to be a fourteen year old boy today!!!

The internet has bred an army of total fucking aresholes. I deleted my Twitter and Facebook accounts over a year ago. It made me start to hate my friends. I don't miss their day to day affairs one jot. In fact, It makes "catching up" relevant again.

Don't get me wrong. The internet has it's place as an important tool, but god how I wish it was pre 97' At least an arsehole was a lonely arsehole with no virtual world to be an arsehole on.

I agree that the internet has changed the way we live our lives. It hasn't changed me as a person though. If the internet was to stop tomorrow, I would still be the same person but the way I live my life would change if you get what I mean.

You really think that? Not to be condescending but i feel a bit sorry for you if that's the case for yourself. I agree its changed people in the way TV did, but i think you were thinking deeper than that

You wouldn't be the same person after a year of no Internet, though. Nobody would, not at this stage.

Bob's right. We're too far gone.

It's the internet, not oxygen.

I recently spent 3 months without the internet and tv when travelling. All that happened was I got bored a bit easier on certain days.

Not being able to send emails or do internet banking would not change me personally. Just make things a bit more inconvenient.

We're the people we are now because of the Internet.

We've learnt too much, seen too much and been given the chance to do too much to deny that we're living through a technological revolution, spearheaded primarily by extensive use of the Internet.

Perhaps I'm exposed to it more because I'm young, and have never known a world without instant knowledge and news, social networking and a connection to anyone on the planet, but you can certainly see where I'm coming from.
