The Dzeko/Tevez Conundrum...

Personally I think as long as Mancini is married to his 4231 formation he's not going to be able to play Dzeko and Tevez together. For me, they both need to play together regularly to develop an understanding with each other and with Silva.

For me he needs to give the three of them a run together in the team between now and the end of the season in a system which doesn't require one of them to play out wide...

It's a tough one, especially now that Mario is back fit again.

I'd opt to play Silva in a deeper role, in a 4-3-3 and play all three of them together.

Something like -

De Jong, Silva, Yaya
Tevez, Dzeko, Balotelli

this if only mancini would drop barry

And Yaya for the inclusion of Milner, who would offer more to that system imo.Come the summer,a superior replacement to all three needs to be found.

A fair few of Mancini's signings appear to be ad hoc. There doesn't seem to have been any thought as to where they fit in to the overall pattern.

I've felt this since the season started and the fact that even now we are relying on the bulk of the team being Hughes signings is not a good sign.

We've offloaded Robinho, Bellamy, Caceido, RSC annd Adebayor as none of them could make a partnertship with Tevez work... yet we go out and spend £27m on a player that looks totally unsuited as a partner to Tevez.

We're crying out for a bit of pace up top, and we sign what looks like, up to now, a poor man's Peter Crouch!

I think we can only play one at a time unless it's panic time at the end of the game and we throw caution to the winds.

The signing of Dzeko simply strengthened my view that Tevez may not be here next season. Why buy a target man and then play with such little width?

It's all bizarre... and will no doubt end in tears!

always said this, said it for months....dzeko needs to be the main striker.

tevez has to play off him, it will only work this way.

He only signed 6 weeks ago?

The theory is right though.

Personally I think Mancini hung his hat on Kola and Boateng turning out to be world class attacking full backs - had that been the case we could play with Tevez and Silva in behind Dzeko, or even the 4312 system Mancini played so often at Inter...

Unfortunately so far neither has looked up to speed with the premiership. The frustrating thing is that Roberto hasn't really looked like finding a "plan b' so to speak. We let our natural wide players go, or we marginalized them, presumably, on the basis that the full backs would do the business - since they haven't, we need to look again at the whole set up.

It's worth pointing out that all three goals were created/scored by naturally wide players. Giggs to Nani, SWP's cross for Dzeko/Silva, and then Nani's cross for shrek...all the pretty passes are nice, but when you come up against a team like the rags who can deal with that effectively, you need to have another option which doesn't involve simply hoofing it up to the big man...

when we were linked with him, and i knew he was coming.

i was talking about formation/where he sets up 3 weeks in advance to him signing.

ok maybe month and a half, not 2 months but still.
