These are one of the bands that I know I should like but have never got into

Would welcome any suggestions as to where to start first in their huge back catalogue

there's so many great Fall albums in order not to overwhelm you i'll go for

this nations saving grace
I am kurious oranj
bend sinister
extricate

they'd worn me out by 1996!

so don't know after that

Not easy listening! Have you heard many fall tunes? I find that the vast majority are shite but there's a few fucking blinders in there that make it all worthwhile

I saw them in 1979 at the Bowden Assembly Rooms.

They were shite then and i never really bothered after that.

Mr Smith fits very snuggly up his own pipe.

"50000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong" - a double CD Greatest Hits would be a good introduction

My one and only experience with the Fall was when I was working on a telly show, Mark E Smith staggered up to me asking him to buy a beer for him. I pointed out to him that he should be on stage, the band were actually playing without him singing and did so for the song. It was live telly and he just staggered off to the bar.

Happy days!

Compared to what we (mcr) produced over the years they are shite.
telephone thing was a good track.

Mondays!!!!

Agreed. Definitely a good intro.
The Fall never let you down, they've made 945 albums and there's always something to: get you going, make you laugh, confuse you, and give you migrane. Sometimes all 4 in one tune a la "Eat y'self fitter" or "Kicker conspiracy".
Some great pop tunes too in the days of Brix.

"whats a computer?........whats a computer!!!!!"

saw them in Edinburgh a few weeks ago and they were superb ! the man is a hero of mine as he is both a Hearts fan and a City man - he stayed in Edinburgh when he was boffing Nico and drank in one of my locals.
I reconmend the 50 mill or any Peel compilations ...

I'd like to say that my favourite Fall album is Live at the Witch Trials but considering I've only heard 7 of them it would be a bit of an unfair judgement.

As someone else posted, the best way to start would probably be '50,000 Fall Fans' or alternatively 'A Sides' which is a singles collection going very cheap in most shops.
