Agree totally. Shame we were shit in the third division :-)
Remember reading words to the effect after Seaman was injured at Pompey: “The City keeper went down in a crumpled heap. He was shovelled into a bin bag and carried unceremoniously off the pitch.”One thing I always curiously remember about Seaman. He was clearly well past it, but he realised this and left the club quite early, instead of hanging on as he could have to collect his wages. That enabled a cash strapped City to go out and buy David James, who for me was a top keeper and who arguably kept us in the Premier League. My point is Seaman could have hung on and collected his wages like Danny Mills. He didn’t and deserves credit for that.
The fourmidablesI can’t disagree with either.
The Keegan promotion side was fantastic. Ali B and Eyal pulling the strings; The Goat, Wanchope and Huckerby scoring goals for fun. Just amazing.
The only bad thing about it was that I missed most of it, as I was spending a semester each in Germany and France as part of my degree course.
The Centurions side was unbelievable 32 victories; 50 points at home and away, and all achieved with a makeshift left-back in Fabian Delph for most of the season.
However, the Fourmidables side was also brilliant, and I can’t decide which one was the better.
Record score at a Wembley final. The OP has missed off:
The greatest FA cup final team 6-0 (shared with Bury).
I’m guessing the 26 goals we scored on the way might be the record as well?
Great squad all-round for that level. We also had Macken, Sun Jihai, Morrison, Dickov, Cooke, Mettomo…It was normally 3-5-2 in 2001-02, SWP broke into the team as a right wing back, Goat played up top with Wanchope until the latter was injured.
Jenson ended as dominant left wing back, after Granville and Tiatto also played there, Pearce was normally left centre back.
Everything is of its time I’m 59 and have enjoyed some wonderful times watching my team but alas also some rubbish but you know what I wouldn’t change a thing and suspect most of us blues wouldn’t However yesterday regardless of the opposition was one of the most complete , controlled games of football I’ve seen , every player put their all in to dominate that game A joy to watch Cmon CityGreat squad all-round for that level. We also had Macken, Sun Jihai, Morrison, Dickov, Cooke, Mettomo…
