The first ever football game you watched

First live game... 7 years old sat on my dads shoulders Bolton v Liverpool 27th Sept 1967. League Cup game that ended 3-2 and Franny Lee played. The smell of the hot dog vendors was a perfume only beaten by freshly cut hay or newly laid tarmac!

First TV game is sketchy but I think it was probably the QPR v West Brom League cup final on March that same year...same score 3-2 with Rodney Marsh netting the equaliser for QPR.
I’m going to live up to my reputation as a pedant.

There is no such thing as freshly cut hay; it’s grass, and it only becomes hay, when it is dried and baled.

The first game I can remember was the world cup final in 1970 The great Brazilian team.
The reason I remember is because I went round a family friends house to watch it. He was football mad an ex pro. He would coach me all the time as a 9 yr old I loved it.
We are still in touch, he went on to be a top coach in Europe, coaching at top clubs. He was in charge of the dippers academy under Dalglish. He also coaches coaches to top clubs. Published lots of coaching books.

So going around his house to watch the world cup final was amazing he is football mad.

The only downside is he is best mates with the pisscan, same school etc but I for give him lol.

Not a bad start. Probably still the finest exhibition of football in an international match that I've ever seen.

One of the cubs parents organised a trip to Maine Road 1968, v Everton, a night game. City won 3-0 and I'll never forget the floodlights and the noise, was in the Platt Lane and i was mesmerised.

I recall Frannie and Tony Coleman playing on the wings and Mike through the middle , but that changed the next season with Buzzer on the wing and Francis hrough the middle

I think my oldest memory of life is watching England lose against West Germany in the 1970 WC. my dad went to his mates who had a colour TV, I remember him asking if I wanted to go with him and I said no, I wanted to watch it at home. I was three years old, sat on the settee, and watched it on the old B&W tv while my mam was doing the ironing in the back room. Remember it so vividly, probably because of how disappointed I felt afterwards, and it's stuck with me.

City v Luton (i was 7 and in tears like many others) and went down hill from there. Least we can laugh about it now apparently.

On the telly i remember the 82 world cup. Falcao and Tardelli celebrations will never leave me!!

TV : Vaguely remember United v Benfica . City v Leicester 69 Cup final I remember better.
1st Live : United v Palace c. '74 .(I started life as a r*g !! Many long showers since then with plenty of soap)
1st Live City : City v Bristol City, Sept '77. Channon, Kidd, Royle all up front ; Gerry Gow CM for Bristol
