The forgotten few

Wynne Davis had a face with more scars (mainly tiny) than anyone else i've ever seen. Fearless. Alex Harley , never found out what transpired, Ian Mellor was playing on Hough End shortly before making his debut. The attrition rate among the hopefuls that City gave a chance to was about 98%, not that surprising.
City, like other clubs, had a network of "land-ladys" who were able to accommodate lads who lived outside commuter distance, in Withington there were quite a few, plus they owned several houses to accommodate signings on temporary basis. West Brom and City seemed to do a lot of business at youth level, lost track of most but Len Cantello was one name i recall. I knew several lads from Manchester who failed to sign as full pros, and went to Oz as player-coaches, for a few years, quite a few drove taxis and made a few bob playing semi-pro in the teams from around the NW. Booze and gambling claimed some, more than a few tried the manager-go-round, few prospered.
For every one "forgotten", far more we never even knew...

Robbie williams?

The former liverpool and England striker David Johnson had a brief and underwhelming loan cameo at the end of McNeill’s first season, 1983/84. He was long past his best and although he apparently did score once for us, the only thing I can ever remember him doing was a comically inept attempt at an overhead kick at the North Stand end. Dennis Tueart 76 it wasn’t

Gerry Creany
One of the people who worked in my pharmaceutical team for a number of years was from Glasgow and along with her friends she encountered various footballers at a bar one evening. She told me about a particularly obnoxious member of said footy players who gave it the big 'Do you know who I am?' to her group. When it was clear there was nowt down for pal with the girls, the obnoxious one winked, clicked his cheek and aimed a 'cocked gun' with his hand at my colleague's group saying 'Gerry Creaney.. catch you later, ladies!'

When he subsequently joined City, that was how I always referred to him when he briefly played for us.. 'Catch you later'..

BTW, when the encounter at the bar ended, one of my colleague's friends said in response to 'Catch you later's' parting shot, 'No chance, pal, get tae f*ck!'

Footballers, eh?!
