It was always said that because of the rapid expansion of world wide TV coverage of sports in the 60s and 70s Muhammad Ali was the most famous person in the entire world (alongside The Pope) when he was at the peak of his career.
Think about it- peasants living in the depths of China,tribesmen in darkest Africa,and indians in rain forests in the Amazon,and the jungles of Borneo knew who this man was,and what he had acheived.
I very much doubt if any of these people will know who Phil"The Power" Taylor is.

Max being a former City captain of course. Love the story of him beating Charlie Chaplin at table tennis while playing with a butter knife instead of a bat.
Would have loved to have seen CB Fry's backflip onto a mantlepiece as well.
