The 'Greek Tragedy' retires.

He just didn’t click at you. He got more love up here, what he needed and was a hero for us.

I loved him and still do so get it up yeez. :)

Mon the Samny

Just watched that. I must admit i don't follow the SPL and my "pub league" comment was meant in that your competitors are so inferior in quality to rival winning the SPL. However, Samaras scored some absolute pearlers for you in a variety of different goals so fair play mate

Makes me wonder what he would have been like in his prime for us, especially under a manager like Pep Guardiola instead of Poop Pearce.

He's a pretty decent finisher, just wasn't a good fit for the team and was obviously pretty low on confidence. Wasn't Barton placing bets against him scoring in some games?

It's actually took the shine off my evening reflecting on how bad we were back then. Dreadful footballer.
Come off it mate, we weren't that bad back then. Much worse in the 80s and 90s most of the time, at least we were quite stable in the Premier League, albeit insipid and uninspiring under Pearce.

I liked Samaras, and for all his failures Infront of goal he was a trier for us and wanted to succeed, and for that reason I was fond of him.

The season we played the quarter final midweek, to quote from the BBC:

“A depleted City, without the likes of Georgios Samaras, Trevor Sinclair, Claudio Reyna, Andy Cole and Antoine Sibierski”

Take note younger Blues, these were the players we hung our hats on, apart from Tricky Trev (who wasn’t really that tricky) and Cole who was all but finished we were truly desperate!

We were and it came to a head the year after at Blackburn!

in the Sheff Und and West Ham away games he made vital brave headed clearances off the line just before we scored in both 1-0 games.

If he and City were shite as made out surely we would have been relegated? More there were a lot of shite fans who did not see the good away performances in the 2nd half of that season.

He was far better than Dickov who got one assist and no goals after being signed at a similar time. The books were balanced when he went to Celtic when loan fees and final transfer fee were taken into account.

His injury stopped us winning that home quarter final against West Ham!
I left that game on 60 minutes! Never done that before but I was fuming at the performance. One of the worst from a City side which epitomised Pearce’s reign for me

I was similarly working with a dutch lad at the time, a HeernVeen fan as well, he actually rated Samaras' potential but said Huntelaar was the real deal, I think we were linked with him later down the line.

As to Samaras, I'm sure that injury early on had a big effect, bobbins after that

A lqd I worked with at the time watched and gambled on all kinds of European football
When we signed samaras he told me it was a huge error as Huntelaar was the man. He actually asked me if it was possible Pearce had got the players mixed up

Yet a near God in Scotland...

Very much wanted for him to be a great player for us, was a big signing for us at the time and he did try, mostly. I remember talking to a Dutch lad at work when we signed him and he told me we got the wrong one, he only looked good because he had a teammate who set him up constantly, can't remember for the life of me who that was though.

Good luck to him in whatever he does next.
No he wasn’t anywhere near a god in Scotland or anywhere else. He made no impression for Celtic. He struggled to match Gerry Creaney if the truth be known.

The wrong time for him at celtc , he would have flourished under Rodgers now
