The Hacienda - The Club That Shook The World - Sat BBC2 10.15pm - featuring me

I’ve heard this a lot from my mates who are solely into bands. They often say a drum machine and bleeps and clicks from a synthesiser isn’t proper music.

But I always try to explain house and techno to people who don’t like that sort of music, and try to convince them why it’s so good, as the strict rhythmic beat that gets us deep inside. The first musical instrument anyone will ever have started playing was the first person who started banging his chest or clapping his hands, the bumph bumph bumph bumph is tribal and built into us since the dawn of time. Before there were ever guitars, bass, pianos… there was the beat.

I bet we’ve been gathering around dancing to the 4x4 for over 100,000 years. Techno for me is primal!
I get that.... it's I'm a lyric and guitar man - some tub thumping beat on repeat is just too monotonous for me......
I'm sure had I dropped an E I'd have danced my tits off to it but never did.

I was in there on the opening night. Played there on the same night as the Mondays in that Battle of the Bands thing they ran.
Now that's pretty cool. BErnard Manning was on the opening night, wasn't he? And Wilson playing piano with Vini Reilly?

Well said mate. I loved both. You will hear me talk on the program (if they include it) about my eyes being opened to electronic music which started with Blue Monday and finished with Voodoo Ray.

I went from 88 til 93. NUDE night was ace (and not just house) but last two years were wank and not sure even now why I kept going once Salford took over the door.

It’s turned into our very own Cavern.

I imagine Peter Hook has made his money back that he lost during its actual existence…and then some. How can you celebrate 40th birthday for something that hasn’t existed for 25 years of that time is beyond me….bah humbug!
Yep Friday Nude night with Pickering and Parkes were legendary nights. Really worked the crowds and sometimes I was just high on the music.

The weekend obviously starts here!

Thanks for the heads up.

Saw several bands there, Icicle Works, Red Guitars, Hanoi Rocks, a totally pissed/stoned Johnny Thunders ... and he fell off his stool.
One thing united them all .... shite acoustics in there

i went twice...at it's peak...and it was shite. And I'm assuming it was shite on the nights I didn't go. Which were many.
Completely over rated both as a venue and as a cultural catalyst.

someone had to say it.

I find with rave clubs when the mandy wears off you realise what a hell hole your in
