Josep Almudever from Marseille the last surviving member of the International Brigade passed away a couple of days ago aged 101.

He was the son of a family from Valencia and fought as a French citizen. He survived Franco's POW camps and returned to France

Britain has always rubbed shoulders with dictators and despots, but this is the first time I can recall us doing it from a position of weakness, where we need something from them rather than them from us.

Orban will enjoy being feted, will say all the right things, the Brexit press will cheer and claim he’s a jolly good fellow. Orban will then return home to trouser the EU cash and do nothing to upset the Germans given Germany is Hungary’s most important trade partner.

A rather squalid little affair which tells us a lot about where the UK is right now.

I do not know why you have to bring Communism into this thread, it is about the death of last surviving International Brigade soldier. The international Brigade were not Communists, they were anti fascists and saw the danger of Fascism whilst the British establishment were appeasing Fascists.

There are memorials to these great men across the UK but they are largely forgotten , they should never be forgotten as they were hero's.
