The keep todays 11 for next week thread

Clichy please.
Kolarov looked much more impressive today but it was no coincidence that the main reason was the fact he had to do little defending......

So just for a laugh I'm watching the replay as it was requested I check out this several minute lapse. In the 70th minute, Kolarov puts a cross in at the corner flag on the left of the attack. Inter counters from their left, i.e. our right side of defense, and Milner is back covering. Less than 30 seconds after the cross, Kolarov receives the ball that we've taken from Inter. He receives it on our side of the middle third of the field and joins in the attack.

Today's starting 11 against man utd? I dunno, Yaya Toure is so crucial against the way manchester united play.... He was delegated to defence today. I mean although he's so amazingly intuitive and adaptable, it's just not where he's shown off the most, especially against man UTD.

Kolarov ticked all the boxes today against inter. I wonder whether he's improved upon his already deadly shot? Such a useful attacking tool for a left back to have...

I think keeping Silva fit for the start of the season is our number one priority and based on that alone I wouldn't start him next week.

Taggert will have been watching today and will have seen that Silva is the main danger to them this season. He will be targetted.

I would go

Hart, Richards, Kompany, Savic (Lescott looked a bit dodgy today) Kolorov

De Jong, Toure, Milner

Johnson Dzeko Balotelli

Barry will be a starter, Lescott will retain his place, Kolorov not sure, other than that yep same team. Thing is only three subs can be used in Community Shield I beleive.

Well lets hope he has improved on the shot. Which while sure could be described as "deadly" was often wayward! The less we see of those shots, the better he will be for us as a player.

Kolarov was great today, and will be a big player for us this season.

LB spot will perhaps be the most fiercely contested this year, as to be honest, both deserve to play and would walk into most other Premier League teams.

It will be fierce - but battles for many positions

LB Kolarov Clichy
RB Richards Zabaleta

Barry in for Milner, freeing up Yaya to rape them again.

i disagree i think pre season has been good for milner and give him a great chance to steal barry's position and for me he has stepped up really well and helped kola alot too today, he seems to be really fighting for a place and looks happy and wants to do well for us rather than thinking i can go somewhere else to play.

Sorry Tevez, Clichy and Aguero but sadly you are on the bench.

Mancini has already confirmed that aguero will be on the bench next sunday.

Its just hit me that we could have Tevez and Aguero on the bench next week! Its a long way from Bianchi and Corradi :D

I always thought Bianchi was quality. Looked like a proper striker until his snood came out.

Corradi on the other hand was an abomination. Worse than Barry Conlon

I won't react. However, surely you have to agree that Toure is often a dangerous player against man U? Did you watch the fa cup semi final? what I'm saying is that if he isn't played in the same role as he was in the fa cup semi, then I feel that'll be a waste. Watch the game, I bet you any money I'm right.

Haha, I actually agreed with what you said but quit referring to the scum as "man utd".

Oh, thanks! Sorry, I don't usually call any team any derogatory name (maybe that's why I'm being abused!). I'll call them manure, but only as a tongue-in-cheek pledge my allegiance type thing ;). However, I don't like calling supporters of another team derogatory names because I have friends as such and we see through the veneers and realise it's just a game whereby everyone deserves equal respect.

-- Sun Jul 31, 2011 11:08 pm --

Yep, I agree. I labelled Kolarov as a future shiner the moment he was signed. For me, I'd just love it if I saw one of those 'brazilian' type goals from that impossible angle curling towards goal. He's certainly capable of it.

Btw, I've always found the full backs Kolarov and Richards/Zabaleta contrasting. Hmmm.... Clichy and Richards is more symmetric for me :).

I would not like to rish the same 11 against them thugs.

You can be certain that fergie will send them out to kick us of the park - they are very afraid this season.

i would play the follwoing team

---------------Hart--------------------
Richards--Kompany--Lescott--Zabaleta
---------De Jong--Barry--Milner-------
--------SWP--Bellamy--Johnson

It's a long way from Tony Scully & Barry Conlon!

There are positions still very much up for debate in that team , midfield between Barry and Milner , left back between Kola and Clichy . I would not be disappointed if that team went out next week . But for all those who favour Kolarov over Clichy , you have to look at who Kolarov was up against today. Inter played very narrow at the back which allowed Kola to exploit the wider areas . Against the rags , he won't be able to do that as much so it could negate his impact upon the game. I don't care who lines up next week as long as Vinnie K , NDJ and David Silva are there , I am happy .

Don't forget, Kolarov kept nanny-goat very quiet in the semi-final and I thought he had an excellent game yesterday. Also, he knows Kompany and - more importantly - Lescott's game much better than Clichy does at the moment.

I believe Milner can play the Barry link rôle between NdJ and YaYa, plus he has more pace than Gareth.

My team for Sunday would be:

Hart

Richards
Kompany
Lescott
Kolarov

NdJ
Milner
YaYa

Silva
Balo
Džeko / Agüero
