I wonder if he will get accused of being a doom and gloomer or a rag or not knowing what he is talking about....he is basically saying what some of us on here have been saying since mancini's arrival.....that he needs to be more adventurous and attacking in his play...especially now we are moving towards the buisness end of the season

I sad yestersday i think the signs are there that he is starting to be more attacking so lets hope so.

We're averaging 2 points a game playing Mancini's "unadventurous" style of football. If playing more adventurously means a return to the 1.7 points a game we were getting before I want no part of it.

It could cost us 4th spot.

There is an inherent irony on this board regarding exciting play and the players that are favoured.

The flair type players are disliked on here, labelled lazy and generally moaned about.

The same posters then turn round and moan about wanting to see 'exciting' football. Something that's harder to achieve with grafters than it is with silky skilled bitches.

At this stage of the season it's all about getting points. How we do this doesn't concern me. Obviously I'd rather watch breath taking football in the process but if that isn't possible then getting the points the hard way will do for me.

I swear, we could win the league having played 38 and won 38 and people would still moan we conceded too much or that the guy who scored 250 goals before Xmas is a bit lazy because The Mirror said so.

Mancini is the man. He has my faith.

while i agree with your stats they hide some points though as well

we should have been more adventurous at hime to liverpool and in the league game vs stoke

What concerns me a little is that against stronger teams like villa and spurs (which are two very important game) mancini might revert to type and play very defensively......then again he may not so we will have to wait and see

i guess even the King isnt infalable then???

The flair players are disliked? I don't think you'll find many people slagging Tevez, Bellamy or Johnson off. Are they not flair players?

The problem is that if all a player has is flair and skill, like Robbie, then when they have an off day it shows up massively, whereas when Tevez has an off day he still shows commitment and desire and thus still contributes to the team.

I like Mancini and hope we stick with him, let him add a bit of quality to the middle in the summer and we should start to see better football. However, not criticising some of the recent performances would be stupid, just like not criticising people who go missing more often than every other week.

And if we were more adventurous and lost? All we can go by is points, and on that basis Mancini's style of play is proving to be very effective. If we'd managed to match Mancini's 2 points a game over the whole season we'd currently be 5 points clear in 4th with a game in hand.

Worked alright in our last match against quality opposition.

It's just an opinion, everyone has one.

i have never ever complained about the flair players....I want robbie back at city, and i want to see us play attacking positive football. I also want to see the likes of ireland and swp starting regualrly....i Have never called any of thse flair players lazy...infact quite teh opposite....i think the likes of ade and robbie are absolutely necessary players to have on a pitch

-- Thu Mar 11, 2010 8:55 pm --

it did work out ok in the last match.....in the second half..and as i posted i think ive noticed a change (that was definately required) in the way mancini sends his teams out......i hope this change continues and mancini gets the balance right.

I agree and would add that people who say they go to games for 'entertainment' also get on my tits. I'll take those 3 points over 'entertainment' or 'creative attacking football' every time....

i guess thats the difference with people who support arsenal and the people that support chelski

arsenal supporters are generally fully behind wenger even though he hasnt won anything for 5 yrs as they appreciate his style of football

chelski fans are a win at all costs

i have to admit that i prefer to win with style but i guess that is just me......

I think you're dreaming if you think the second half represented any sort of change in philosophy, different situations in matches will call for different approaches. Chelsea was nothing more than that, there mustn't be too many that believe that we have only one way of playing under any manager.

"There has only been one club on my mind for the last 30 to 40 years, and that's City," said Bell. "I'm disappointed that the north-east clubs are not doing too well, but I'm more concerned about City doing well."
To see our greatest ever player say something like that that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Good article by SB, very few get the King to open up,he's right about the football but the 2nd half against chelski was more like it,let's hope the penny's dropped with mancini.

I would class a flair player specifically as a midfield player who can control the game and spot a killer pass aka Benarbia/Berko in recent years.

This is something that we don't have at the moment, Ireland could become that player but has gone backwards this season ... he may yet deliver.

These players are rare admittedly, but this kind of talent never appeared to be at the top of Hughes' transfer priorities. Mancini is really just trying to make the best of what he has at his disposal.

Oh, and for the record, having watched City since 1967, Colin Bell is the best player ever to grace our shirt. IMO of course.

I think your spot on with this. We've already seen things change 'on the fly' during games and change again if they don't seem to be working out.

but the change was there to see in the liverpool in th first 20mins and in the stoke game until ade got sent off (in my opinion).

I hope mancini has different ways of playing but he has seemed pretty rigid up until now

I think it's as much about the players learning a more systematic way of playing, I seem to remember reading a quote from one of them saying Hughes didn't do much of 'that tactical stuff'. Clearly Mancini's first priority was to stop us conceding 3 every week then build from there, as you say the signs have been there in more recent games. You can't expect to go from 'just go out there and do your stuff lads' to playing as a team over night.

"If you aim for a win, a draw is acceptable. But if you aim for a draw, the only other result is a loss."

Brilliant quote there Colin!
