The Labour Government

19th June means you'll qualify for your state pension in September, if you don't receive a letter from the Gov Pension administrators within 3 months of your retirement just get in touch with them. Also the link to gov.uk may help you with accessing how much your pension will be.
Again cheers for this

Thanks for that mate, this has cleared up the doubts I was having.
I’ve clearly misunderstood the paper I was reading with me being born on the 19th June
And the paper saying anyone born after April 1960 would include myself in the change.
I seem to have gotten a fair bit of slight abuse with my post due to me not understanding what the proposals meant
As an old twat pushing 65 and not really interested in politics I posted this hoping someone like yourself with far better understanding than me could explain it.

Which you have Cheerz mate.
You got the abuse (more like ridicule) for posting in the Labour party thread, while not understanding and not being interested in politics, but writing
"this labour government on top of all the woke shite are fucking thieves" about stuff the Tories had done.

To be fair, there are national newspapers who are putting out articles like that every other day.

The Mail and Express are both regularly posting stories headlined "Reeves plan to steal etc.", followed by some made up hypothetically possible tax. When the OP first posted, I had a quick google, and got an Express article saying that Reeves planned to put up the pension age almost immediately. The article had plenty about what the cost would be to a pensioner, but only vaguely referenced the fact that there was no actual basis for the claim.

Without wishing to be too unkind to @roach3, I didn't want to compound the ridicule by assuming that by "not being politically savvy" he meant he reads the Express.

What does Starmer mean by a new threat. There is nothing new about “lone wolf” terrorists. Has he forgotten about the Manchester bomb and numerous other attacks? He is talking bollocks.

Without money and decent staff in the security and mental health services we are pissing in the wind. This has been going on for a while so it would be unfair to put it at Starmers door.
He should be given some time but history makes positivety about meaningful change hard to embrace.

The Manchester bomber wasn't a long wolf was he?

His brother went to prison for helping him carry out the attack.

Giving Mandelson the ambassador job was a smart move IMO.

He’s a brilliant communicator and we need someone to the right of the Labour church to connect with the American administration.

He’s a smooth but very astute operator.
He is a clever man. As much as I don't like him he's a master manipulator and his work could benefit us. He's slimy enough to make Trump feel like he's our king and cunning enough to get him to agree to stuff he won't realise is more beneficial to us.

We don't have the funding to keep looking out for these 'lone wolves'. I can see his new plan of attack will be people in public service being trained to identify any potential threats as part of their "security duties" to save millions on paying more police/security services.

I am not blaming it on Starmer. This sort of incompetence has been happening for decades. It is a process problem made worse by total lack of investment in infrastructure and resources. We never learn lessons and are slow to react to change. Every time a child dies from neglect or a madman murders someone in a random act of violence our political leaders demand an inquiry which takes years to be completed. And then, after all the hand-wringing, no action is taken and the whole cycle is repeated.
Our system of Government has failed us for years. FFS there are still hundreds of thousands of people living in flats clad with flammable tiles despite the Grenfell Towers disaster. It happened eight years ago and nothing has been done about it.

The security services missed opportunities with the Manchester bomber, though I am sure more resources would have helped

The terror element of the current case might be relevant, aside from fact it appears he couldn’t be charged in that way, in terms of the initial police response. It seems he was making ricin and there might have been accomplices knocking about? Guess the inquiry will tell us more

its not just about Labour that they do this - Sun I think - usual exceptionalism on display framing something done by the EU is done just to harm British interests

We are both on the exact same page

That's clearly not a great headline, but it is an actual tax, which does affect British people. The headline is slightly misleading, suggesting we're the main target, but it's still essentially true.

I was more talking about the constant stream of articles about taxes that don't exist, and aren't likely to, being presented as "Reeves' new plan to steal your money". They get shared constantly on social media, and so many people take them at face value. Half the time you could read the article without realising that it's total speculation.

If instead of spaffing money on Rwanda and barges and changing ministers and Prime Ministers and got on with attracting investment like this they might still have some MP's on Teesside

No, that a pensioner supports triple lock
I’m not a pensioner, not for at least another 15yrs and I support the triple lock but only until it gets the pension back to comparable levels with other western European countries. Once it’s there or there about it needs to revert to something more in line with wage growth.

Our net replacement rate is currently 7% less than the OECD average, once we hit parity with the average then that to me is when the triple lock should be stopped. The average seems a sensible level to account for the discrepancy in tax. In reality we aren’t that far off.
