The Labour Government

Yep, exactly what I thought it'd be.

I feel sorry for all those who voted Labour in a desperate hope for a better life but have learnt 'there's a £22BN black hole' so bills are going up and taxes are going up, and the money that's left is getting sent to Mauritius plus £11.6bn more for overseas climate aid. They've been done over hook, line, and sinker.
The alternative would have been worse imho but sides have been chosen a long time ago. Its more a spin exercise than a place for honest debate.

If Cummings were telling the truth, it would mean the Tories were wasting a lot of time and effort on negotiating in bad faith. And lying in Parliament about those efforts.

I do wonder at all these patriots who would perpetuate the image of Perfidious Albion.

Why would they be slow to go down?

If there's less growth there's less inflation and more room to cut rates.
First off, there has already been a slow down and secondly, Inflation can be caused by other factors, such as tax rises. Remember the Autumn budget? Those big tax rises are coming this spring.

Has inflation gone up? You seem to scraping the barrel.

The big employers like supermarkets have decided to make job cuts and and get rid of cafes despite making big profits.

Do you honestly believe we're going to see stagflation?

I agree.
Here is a note from Dominic Cummings on the matter.
We don't have to do anything on this.
Seems Johnson didn't have the balls or couldn't be arsed most likely to deal with it so asked Cleverly to look into it and he just kicked the can down the road.
Starmer chooses to do something about it because he is lawyer not a politician and Lammy is getting off on his anti colonial reparations hobby horse.

I do despair of the amount of people whose apparent vision of what Britain should be nowadays is aligned with that of Dominic Cummings.

Particularly on international matters, it does not align with mine nor what I thought everyone considered the norm for the last pretty much century.

I believe we are in for a very tricky period. I thought the Chancellors budget was naive. The way an economy grows is through people having confidence in it and being able and willing to invest in new business and expand existing ones. The tax rises announced last autumn were very big and are effectively being brought in in one go. It's knocked a lot of people's confidence. I know several companies that have put expansion plans on hold because of the tax rises. You yourself have just said big supermarkets are cutting jobs. Some will but some who can't afford to lay off workers will just put up prices.

That budget and Labours initial downplaying of the economy has knocked alot of business confidence. Bailey also has form for this, he predicted a 2 year recession a few years back which didn't happen. He said inflation would peak at 4-5% and there was no need to rush and raise rates, a few months later we were at 11% His forecasts are usually hopeless, let's all hope he is wrong on his latest outlook, but worryingly it looks as if he could be right. I suspect inflation will rise a bit by a point or two and the economy might go negative for a few months. Then the government will borrow more money to try and kickstart it again. Lets just say I will be pleasantly surprised if we see much if any growth in the first 12mths of the new governments tenure, but fingers crossed I'm wrong.

I dispute that there is a deep state.

Goof grief, you don't need to know much about Cummings to know that he might be lying.
Ffs Vic it appears you would start an argument in an empty room.
" I dispute there is a deep state"
I didn't say there was and I have no interest in discussing it.
The point of the post was to evidence the previous poster's point that we don't actually have to do anything on the Chagos.
As for Cummings may be lying, well so might you or I and and any other poster or any politician mentioned on here. Like I said he is familiar with the matter, in his post he is derogatory in his reference to Johnson , Cleverly, Grieve and the government legal team, I would imagine that if he this was all lies then one of them at least would be keen to call him out on it. I don't see that any of them have. In the absence of such a report on the balance of probability I would believe it to be true. You blurting out he might be lying just doesn't cut it.
Anyway, to keep your mind away from the Deep State, here is a tweet from Jenrick ( I just know you will be a fan) on the same point, the point being that this whole affair is not more than an International Human Rights lawyer anti-colonialist wankfest.

You could head off to the football threads and rewrite this with Lord Pannick, Starmer, Murray Rosen etc. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a connect the dots 'conspiracy' with almost every high profile case. It says more about the UK establishment than the Chagos islands.

Jenrick clearly decided months ago, that if he wants to be the leader of the Tory party, he needs to go full Farage with the social media conspiracies.

Of course Jenrick would say that, he wants to take us out of the international courts too!

I disagree the alternative would have been worse...this current government is rock bottom for me. Paying billions to give away territory while everyone freezes at home with the highest energy bills in the world that keep on rising is beyond madness!

I don't blame anyone for not voting for the Tories though, they told nearly as many lies as the current government.

Wow I knew the deal was bad but didn't realise it involved so many of Starmer's mates and donors. Has to be the most corrupt deal of all time!

Lol. You're absolutely off your trolley if you believe this.
