The Labour Government

But not lying to the Queen?

Or unlawfully helping out a donor?

I doubt the first one, second one is possibly an unproven allegation of misconduct in a public office but you could accuse lots of politicians of that including Starmer himself, finding the proof is a lot harder.

Not sure of the relevance to the Reeves fraud accusations though.

BBC this evening essentially saying "we can't prove this" while still making it main item on Radio4 news - even while Vance is saying there's no free speech in the UK...
Merely attempts to create social media bandwagons.

The past 2 or 3 have missed the mark.

I assume the free speech one will die a death now the US is starting to suppress far more speech that we do. Musk and Vance may try, but Americans will be thinking of their own problems soon, as and when the tariff prices start to bite them.

Is anyone calling it fraud, besides yourself?

If your pay (or pension) is increasing by higher than the inflation rate, your standard of living will be better. That will not apply to everyone, but that's why the idea that a 0.1% drop in per capita GDP means living standards have gone down is daft / stupid / statistically ridiculous.
Big IF there and the scenario you describe is ridiculously unbelievable for many on here and not the case. At the moment the "hard working public" once they've met all their obligations will have far less, if anything, left of their wages.

You and Labour need to wake up and smell the coffee and stop defending the indefensible. Just because its a Labour Government it really doesn't mean that everything is always right and they don't fuck up some times.

Well I said 'it seems like the crux of the judgment' once on the basis of the reporting and then Vic chimed in to berate me for not reading the judgment in full unlike him who 'skim-read' it. But like I said, it's splitting hairs, everyone agrees it's a ridiculous ruling which was the fundamental point I was making about politicised immigration tribunals, you might as well start correcting people's spelling if that's the only point you're gonna make.
There you go again. "My fundamental point is that everybody agrees with me and anybody that doesn't is just politicising".

I’m getting nostalgic for the days when good old Boris could be relied upon to get pissed at parties with KGB spies or hosting piss ups in his gaffe when the rest of the country couldn’t comfort their close family dying of Covid.

Instead we’ve got Starmer who sometimes takes a full day and a half to sack dodgy MPs, and a chancellor who doesn’t know the difference between “the best part of” and “more than half”. They really need to do better.

Except for finding the proof of course.

You doubt that Johnson lied to the Queen? Why would he make an exception for the Queen?

Well come on, it is a ridiculous decision. I think so, you've even said you think so (or that you think 'it's flimsy'), all the major political parties think so. In fact, I don't think anyone in their right mind thinks it's a human right to have your brother and dependents living in the same country as you so the only possible interpretation is that the judge (assuming he's mentally fit) is abusing the law so he can impose his open-border beliefs on the country.

This place is mental at times.

Is it bots, trolls, or Ric just needing clicks?

I do hope it’s one of the above. Real people believing the shit they’ve been spouting is a scary thought.

Just two points - the latter first - if it does begin at home why do we not honour that saying and look after our own? Its the biggest myth peddled by the Right. They don't want money going abroad but they sure as hell don't want it going to our needy when it could be lining their pockets.

Secondly I'll address your first point - Soft Power.Fine don't help people but don't moan when others do. 25/26 will be the years we witness Trump crying his eyes out as Chinese and Russian influence spreads around the globe via the US aid they offer to replace. It could make the Cuban missile crisis look like a fracas in a pub car park after closing time
As I said they are all as bad as each other. And I have no choice with my taxes, the government of the day will choose to do whatever they wish, I can 'moan' as you put it all I want, but there is no democracy in this nanny state that would allow me to choose where my taxes are spent. So ' moaning' is all I have got. And fwiw I have NEVER missed my vote in either local or General Elections in over 50 years.

I will wait to see what happens with your mystic Meg prediction about The Donald and the second coming of The Cuban crisis. I don't necessarily agree with your view, but we each have a right to an opinion and should respect others for having a different viewpoint.

I have watched the 60s TV show produced by Tom Hanks and quite fascinated by JFKs handling of the Cuban crisis, and how initially he was played by his own military. I could go on infinitum about who murdered him. I remember it happening as my parents were worried, I'm not sure how we will get there again?

I don't want my taxes going to fund overseas aid and wars that we really shouldn't be involved in. Charity begins at home. Except it doesn't in the UK. Unless you are a politician.
Here’s where your taxes go:

Not sure scrapping overseas aid will do much for your taxes but it will probably reduce exports to those countries by more than than we give out.

Sound points, but a slight lack of empathy for our pensioners.

There literally is - read a manifesto - see what a Party proposes on foreign aid and vote as per your conscience - for "no democracy" read "I can't be arsed to find out"

I was born into the Cuban Missile Crisis I lived through the Cold War I was sat in my Citroen outside the then Leigh RLFC ground listening to the radio as the Wall came down. If you lived it if you have studied it you know when international peril is rearing its head
