The Labour Government

It did. I think it said that pensioners would be approx £400 better off and single minimum wage approx £1300.

Here’s the video, if anybody cares to watch: Bills Going Up
Thanks, I did actually watch this real time.

This is a little skewed IMO. Firstly it takes a huge drop in energy bills into account.... well they weren't really drops as the bills themselves were at an all time high due to the fuel/oil crisis and the war in Ukraine. But this ear compared to last could arguably be seen to be cheaper, but in reality we are and have been paying much more than we have ever done before for fuel.

Also, this fails to take into account the general day to day cost of living inflationary increases - supermarket etc... I don't know if you go shopping at all but the prices are shooting up at the moment... almost on a daily basis. I can assure you, you don't get as much bung for your buck as you used to get just 6 months ago... regardless of what the inflation rate tells you. For example the price of a packet of biscuits digestives for example may have increased by only 5-10% but the size of the packages has definitely decreased and that applies across the board to all sectors.

Despite what we've been told, I can assure you that pensioners and low earners will not be £500 better off when this Government leaves office.... but lets wait and see shall we?

Transport costs (bus fares, train fares) Car insurance, home insurance all going up... partly to cover the costs of additional Employers NIC.

We are in a mess and I do not lay the blame for the mess at the doorstep of the Labour Government... the Tories were a big player, but here in Wales where we've had Labour for 25+ years, we are in an even worse state.

No such thing as a typical average wage family in reality, state pension and min wage are pretty much set. Its a non figure.

Ooooh look at the your average family £4000 better off.

Not sure I get your point here? It’s the average median household income, why would you think there’s no such thing?

I didn't say there wasnt one couple on exactly 36k each after both getting a 5.8% pay rise. I said its such a meaningless figure and even if it wasn't these will not be the people worrying overly about getting by.

I'm not interested in pedants and Labour happy clappers, it's tedious.

Like I said previously, I’m hoping for the best, expecting the worse. There’s a lot going on in the world and if there’s a little ray of hope for some, then I’ll take that.

Quite simple in response to bluehammer85 not all full time workers benefit from the rise only those who were between the old rate and new will benefit anyone above the new NMW will not see any benefit.
The problem is that if the Labour Government say it's true, then there are those among us who gladly believe the story without properly challenging it. Others among us are more skeptical and are prepared to challenge the voice of authority and demand more realistic evidence as opposed to accepting the storytelling that goes on.... and it does as will be evidenced over the coming weeks, months and years.

All I want is honesty instead of posturing and deceit which is what we have now.... on both sides of the political divide.

I’d argue it’s pedantic arguing it’s meaningless to be fair mate. It’s literally the average household in the U.K, the individual salaries won’t differ too much, it’s just showing the impacts on the average household as well as on other groups.

Personally I take it with a pinch of salt due to the wage increases they’ve put in there, I don’t know anyone that got that big a wage increase this year, at least in the private sector I work in.

I will take half agreeing :-)

Come on the blues!

For a start some of those 2025 figures are incorrect and actually higher. And secondly some should not be there at all if the government did their job correctly. For example the energy price cap should be abolished and replaced with a consumer driven price cap that doesn't act for the energy companies.

The energy price figures for in April 2023 are wrong are they not, given that the Energy Price Guarantee was still in operation then?

As such, bills were essentially flat at £2500 per annum for the vast majority, and there was no change in prices as the OFGEM price cap was suspended. Also, the OFGEM price cap (although suspended) actually declined in April 2023, by 23%.

How do you account for these inconsistencies?

Business Secretary saying we might do something against the tariffs but might not. Spend as month talking to "Business" and maybe make a decision then. But that depends...

An absolute word salad of a speech to parliament.
Ah, our Business Secretary, the one that has been in hiding since being caught out for falsely claiming to have been a solicitor when in fact he was never more than a trainee who failed to complete his training. Why would he do this ? Because he has never held a job in the real world, he has spent his time " assisting" Labour councillors and MP's and as he knows outside of the political bubble he inhabits, that CV impresses no one. So here he is with no commercial experience whatsoever trying to deal with business leaders and the likes of Trump and Vance and the chaos they have unleashed with their tariff programme. What do we expect ?
You and I TFH will be better placed to deal with this than him. He is worse than fucking useless.
