Very good, but until starmer starts hammering this home to the public as well as his slightly nice but bland 'let's make Britain a good place to work' thing, the Tories are laughing all the way to the next GE. Sadly I suspect he's rather happy with a lot of this proposed legislation as it will be a help in keeping those annoying left wing / socialist types in the labour party quiet too .
True, but how will the average person that doesn't have much interest in politics react when that legislation hits home?
I have no idea, but we are currently sleepwalking into becoming a country many, I hope, will not recognise as one we want to live in.
You want a bike meet? Sorry, you can't do that, it's illegal. Too much noise.
You want a car meet? Sorry, it's illegal. Too much noise.
You want to go to a football match? Sorry, you'll be arrested because you are part of a crowd making too much noise.
Those may seem extreme and unbelievable examples, but the legislation now passing through parliament make those scenarios possible, and it's not something we have had to consider before. 10 years in gaol for nothing other than enjoying what we have entertained ourselves with for centuries.
Why? What is the underlying motive of this government to make gatherings like that a criminal offence?
Well, it's about silencing criticism of any sort. The tories detest it, and they are making it illegal.
The Home Secretary, Priti Patel, has been accused of bullying on numerous occasions. Whistleblowers have called her out on it, and she doesn't like it. 'How dare they' basically.
Yes, she's a bully. It's cost us taxpayers more than the price of a pint in compensation to those she has hounded out of office, but the most worrying aspect of the legislation now passing through parliament is government, not the courts, will have the power to dictate how the whistleblowers and criticisers of government live their lives.
A government minister, with all their prejudices, will have the power to dictate to anyone that dares to criticise them how they can live their lives. Who they can meet. Where they can go. When has that ever been a part of our history as a free and fair nation? It's coming, and it's coming soon.
I don't think it's got anything to do with keeping the left wing in check. It's about total power, and the really worrying aspect of the emergency powers granted to Boris Johnson at the moment is he can, if he wants, delay a general election if it's in the 'national interest'.
No, it's more than keeping Starma quiet. The legislation now passing through parliament is draconian at every level, and as I said in my first post, political prisoners in the UK are now a real possibility, and that includes members of the opposition.
We are turning into a fascist state.
It will be a criminal offence to publicly criticise the government with a potential sentence of 10 years in gaol.
