Never been so thinking of planning a surprise few days there at the end of the month for me, Mrs TLC and our 9 month old.

Any advice on best places and accommodation?

you'll not get it cheap mate

Coniston is good, especially if you camp, it's right on the lake

Keswick is another good base, but the lakes is expensive

try Groupon you may get a deal

Ambleside or Bowness.

White Cross caravan park maybe worth a look. I got married just down the road at the Merewood country house.

Keswick is great. Lived there for 3 years in the 90s and some great walking to be done around there. Get up borrowdale pass or head into St. John's vale. As someone already said, it's not cheap, but make sure you try a Jennings Snecklifter!

Stayed over at a top family B&B about 6 years ago. It was a gift by the in-laws(it's how I knew they liked me). Nice breakfast, and they help you out with recommendations of where to go:

Kendal's The Hill B&B. It's over the road from a pub/restaurant called The Watermill Inn(it has it's own microbrewery).

I'd go for the North Lakes - Ullswater, Buttermere etc.

A mate of mine say's it's good.
OP go to the western lakes, easkdale or wasdale are good, lived up there for years with work
