Oh by the way Hughes is using this system this season.

This is the system Venables started playing about with in the run up to Euro '96 and also teh syatem all the decent teams used in Euro 2000.

This isn't what City are using this season, we always have two attacking midfielders playing wide for a start.

It's more or less the Hughes system imo, just those 2 attacking midfielders play a bit wider, there's neither of em a proper winger, really.

Hughes is more 4 2 3 1 than xmas tree 4 3 2 1.

Last match was v Villa 4 1 4 1 and he has also played 4 3 3 (but the mid 3 are very tight and front three wide). All the formations are are not minor variations of each other, but the xmas tree has yet to feature.
