City chief blasts Hughes' reign

MARK HUGHES is under increasing pressure to turn Manchester City’s season around following stinging criticism from club executives.
The Welshman has been blamed for failing to turn the team into a side capable of challenging for the title – despite heavy backing from the board.

Hughes splashed £65.5million last summer – signing Brazilians Robinho and Jo, along with England ace Shaun Wright-Phillips and Belgian Vincent Kompany.

But a string of disappointing results have seen City slump to 17th in the Premier League and Hughes is under fire from sections of City supporters.

And the club's executive chairman Garry Cook has now admitted they have been short-changed by the team’s poor performances this season.

He said: “The fans have every right to show their feelings, they pay good money and they don’t deserve what they are getting.

“Mark has got some challenges in some of the playing areas, he doesn’t have a very deep squad and we have infrastructure investments going on and are changing people at the club.

“But he is an experienced manager and knows what success looks like and we are looking forward to a better second half of the year.”

Expectations at Eastlands have increased following the Abu Dhabi United Group’s takeover of the club in August, but they have won just once in their last eight games – picking up five points since the end of October.

Only goal difference is keeping them out of the relegation zone and their poor form has heightened speculation that former Blackburn boss Hughes could be heading for the exit door.

But Cook insists the ex-Wales boss' job is safe – for now.

He added: “Mark is working hard to correct some of the challenges we have got.

“A few results from the last few games have not gone in our favour but what you don’t want to do on occasions like that is panic.

“What we don’t want to do is change our direction and change what we are trying to do over the long term based on a couple of results.

“We are changing everything we do to build a club for the future and Mark is part of that.

“The changes that are going to take place are going to be at all levels and he is going to have to change some of the ways we do things as regards to players.

“We don’t presume anything is going to go wrong and we will deal with what happens with results over the next four months.

Amazing how they have interpreted a vote of confidence.

Looks like this is what we are going to have to face until we pick up form.

i find it incredible how Sky Sports News have the Diarra to Real Madrid as one of their top stories and are ignoring their primary sources latest update on the situation. I have just emailed them the following.

Hello. i have been following your Lassana Diara story through out the day and still see it is a main news story.

Your main spanish correspondent is Guillem Ballague who reported the story this morning. He has since updated his story and claims that Manchester City have intervened in the transfer and the player is being encouraged to look at City's offer before making a decision.

I have included the link
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.guillembalague.com/rumores_desp.php?titulo=Diarra%20update:%20Madrid%20face%20competition%20from%20City&id=126" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.guillembalague.com/rumores_d ... ity&id=126</a>

So you dont have to search for the story. Are you going to update this news or continue to neglect some key information.

Thankyou for your time.

Lets hope all papers do what they can to get agent les and mr cook out of the club asap.
