The modern penalty

Maureen whining about ‘modern penalty’, yet has forgot about Rashford spouting about how Maureen had pretty much told him to go down at the slightest touch.
Hypocritical Cnut.

Why? They’re only awarded for offsides, keepers picking up a back pass or a player reentering the field of play without permission.
Why? Because a free hit on goal for a minor nudge on a player who is going away from goal (and may not even have had control of the ball when he was fouled) is a disproportionate reward for the action, which is what leads to all the diving in the box.
Gundo yesterday is a good example - he maybe had an extremely slight chance of creating a goal from the position he was in when he was fouled so why should that foul result in a free shot on goal? Why should/could an action like that be a situation that could decide the outcome of the game?

It all comes down to risk and reward - there is a minuscule risk for diving/going down easily but the reward for getting away with it is enormous.

I get your logic, but the LOTG say they are direct free kicks and therefore penalties in the box.

IMO there needs to be a stringent clampdown on diving and unsportsmanlike behaviour. Get players banned for it. It’d soon stop.

What about restricting penalties to fouls committed inside the 6 yard box?

The penalty should not be awarded on the basis of 'contact'! The question should be "Has he been tripped, pushed, held, kicked, etc!" And the last three don't necessarily mean the player fouled ends up sprawling on the pitch. MANUre were the perpetrators of the modern form of cheating in the PL - feel contact so hit the deck, and for some it didn't need any contact. Which ref gave the pen for Ash the Crash going arse over tit without any contact and getting the defender sent off - think it was QPR! And summat like the 12th minute!
