The Monarchy

Well shit, i was gonna say burn the cunts. Seeing as i have just been informed that twat morrisey hates em i now want them to live a long, rich and fulfilled life.

I do see them outmoded and a little archaic in a non charming way.
The queen seems alright but after her i would like all that land they own given to the people.
I just can't agree with people being born privileged just because and no other reason. I don't begrudge Bill Gates kids what they have for example.

Read 'Royalty' by Jeremy Paxman, it's a great book about why people still put up with monarchies. In the growing absence of religion, people do find comfort in the 'higher being' status of a monarch. It makes us feel comfortable really.

The other choice is elected presidents, who wil do what they can to serve their own purposes. at least with monarchies they do what's right for the country, not always them. Cromwell overthrew the monarchy and replaced it with himself, and then wanted his son to take over....is that not a monarchy?!

For 60p a person, it's not that bad a service.
It's nothing to do with 60p a head, it's what they represent that is wrong.
"People do find comfort in the 'higher being ' status of a monarch".
Do you?
Do me a favour.

Yea it's completely laughable. some cunts on another planet elsewhere are laughing at us monkeys right now as we bow to this monarchy shit.
Bring me Harry right now, I'd knock the ginger prick out. the media making him look like some common guy in the armed forces and so on.

All that wealth/land they have, give it to the Homeless shelters across this country.

We don't need the monarchy. we probably get more tourists over to watch the Rags play.

The whole idea of some people having a quality called royalty which the rest of us don't is absurd.
Humanity is absurd.

Man stands face to face with the irrational. He feels within him his longing for happiness and for reason. The absurd is born of this confrontation between the human need and the unreasonable silence of the world.

Albert Camus.

Now where's my black beret and cigarette?

I would say in terms of the problems that this country faces at the moment, the monarchy are 'low priority'.

I can understand why people don't like the thought of a monarchy but pragmatically deposing them entirely would be a huge pain (if not legally fractious) for very little benefit other than the principle of the whole thing. People might think there's a legal argument for seizing the royal family's assets and giving them to the people, but I'm not convinced myself. They own those assets in the same way that everybody does. Either they bought it, or they were given it (or it was lawfully seized). Therefore, I can't see any attempt to take these things standing up in court.

Given that they mostly support themselves through their tourist income and they serve a function as a ceremonial face of the UK, I can see this being bottom of the list of priorities for most governments.

I have an inkling they'll be sticking around for a while yet, but I imagine they might gradually fade into obscurity over the course of the next few hundred years or so.

Can we keep them until after the queen dies so we can still get a day off work?
Will we get one if the ginger one ever gets married?

Id say a high percentage of people in this country support/ dont mind the monarchy and tbh its low priority right now for most people
