the myth of celtic and their incredible support?

Not really sure why anyone cares about attendances, that's normally the preserve of United and Arsenal fans.

Don't think there's much doubt that Celtic have a larger worldwide fanbase than us. I'd rather be in our position though, obviously.
You're the gaffer around here. Do something about this joker. Make him go to an Anglican rave this weekend, maybe?

To be honest, I think there is doubt... let's face it, the majority of their fan base outside of Glasgow itself is a fan down to religious/national/political reasons, rather than fans of the football club... it's has a predominantly Irish Catholic following... and whilst they have a large Celtic fanbase, I'd argue that most people you'd meet that claim to be fans, actually mean it's their second club, due to the reasons mentioned before – do they just follow Celtic and watch them in the SPL... do they fuck!

We have had higher attendances than you more seasons than not.

Empty seats at Parkhead every week.

Funny isn't it – their ground holds 60,832, yet last season's average attendance was shy of 45,000... 15,000 empty seats... are you really sure?

If global shirt sales are an indicator of worldwide fanbase, we're 13th in Europe. Celtic are outside the top 20.

Two Bob one/two team league has helped Celtic become a legend in thier own lunchtime, apart from Scotland nobody cares or gives a fuck about them.

Perhaps not directly, but it's Celtic's and Rangers' fault that the Scottish Premiership is so poor.

Any half-decent lad coming through at another club is immediately snapped up by one of the two sectarian scumbags, thereby weakening their rivals and maintaining the boring duopoly

Mad4city, arrogance?

Arrogance is stating Celtic are a Championship side behind the likes of Burnley and Bournemouth and arrogance by some Man City fans is clearly being shown in this thread.

Remind me of what the original purpose and content of this thread is about.

So aswell as Manchester City being a 'bigger' club and having a better team, they also now have a bigger and better fanbase and those that actually know a little bit about football, people like Lionel Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, Iniesta, Xavi and a whole heap of other top players and managers are all wrong and the Celtic support and atmosphere they generate now come 2nd to the mighty Manchester City support, stadium and atmosphere. According to a few on here maybe, but nowhere else in the footballing world.

Think that pretty much sums up this thread and you speak of Celtic supporters being arrogant?

Ashame, just like there are idiots in the Celtic support, there are clearly some in the Man City support too.

Come on, this thread is frankly embarrassing for you all. Questioning Celtics support is just quite laughable.

Like I said, 100k Celtic fans in Seville, 200k that our neighbours populated Manchester with in European finals. Show me any big English team doing that for a European final? You can't, so says it all really. Says it all for this thread.

The cold, hard truth is that Burnley or Bournemouth would have torn that experimental City team a new arse, the other night. Celtic didn't because they aren't capable of doing so.

I was chatting to a long-time Celtic supporter, only last night and I took the trouble to mention that quote of Messi about how great the atmosphere is at Parkhead. He responded by agreeing that the atmosphere is special but he'd rather Messi didn't mention it because (and I quote, now) "if we were still on the stage where we were a threat to Barcelona, Messi wouldn't be blowing smoke up our holes about how great we're supposed to be".

I wouldn't argue but that Celtic have huge support. It is worth pointing out that a lot of that 100k were only there for the piss up and the sing-song, rather than being proper supporters. Otherwise, why would there only be 20,000 in attendance when Berwick come to town.

You ignored the fact that I mentioned about Celtic's sole European trophy being won 50 years ago. You shouldn't though because Celtic's win in 1968 is as irrelevant to us as our sole European trophy win (the Cup Winners Cup) in 1970 is to you.

Be honest, which if the two clubs do you think is most likely to be getting it's hands on a European trophy next? For me, City clearly still have ground to make up but we stand some hope, whilst Celtic, as things stand, will probably never see European success again, in our lifetime.

Celtic have a great history but it is no longer a big club. Sorry, if the truth hurts but you are only dreaming if you think otherwise.
