the myth of celtic and their incredible support?

Just spent an hour reading this thread..., and I don't regret a minute of it!

So historically City's attendances have always been bigger, awesome! I wonder what the difference would be had they gone 36 years without a trophy whilst Rangers won everything in sight whilst they slipped from one division to the next?!

The 90's were Celtics worst years, and the attendences did slip, however 47,000 isn't bad for 1996/97 considering we had'nt won the league for 8 seasons and Rangers won their 9th in a row to equal our record, City's attendances have not "always been bigger" not by a long shot, on average they have but stats don't always tell the whole story as I have pointed out.

Never heard of them.

Look them up on youtube, usually attract controversy but always provide a decent athmosphere.

Without going too deep in this argument. Celtic were run by crooks, the Kelly's and the Whyte's robbed the club blind. I remember as a kid of about 14, we were playing Basle, having to get a copper to get us out the jungle part of the ground as we were struggling to breathe, he finally got us out and in to the celtic end which was just bearable, I figured the crowd had to be 75= to 80,000 but blow me down if next day the crowd was given as 52,000.....Remember this is a club who brought back gate receipts from Uruguay in a suitcase, by the time they had landed in America it had devalued by 50%. In the centenary year the championship winning game was a farce. I took the then girlfriend with me to the stand as I didn't think she would cope in any standing section. The entire game was one continuous stream of stretchers coming round the track with injured fans with breathing problems due to severe over crowding. The official attendance was bang on the regulated maximum of 60,800, when directors were questioned on the subject they stated if they declared any more they would have been shut down. Now as they never gave the true figure they could hardly declare more income so no doubt the extra 15,000 entrance fees went the same way as the other millions syphoned out the club. We used to have a standing joke that celtic never counted the stand. We were robbed for decades by the then owners of our club and I imagine most other clubs suffered to an extent by a system that was open to abuse.
