the myth of celtic and their incredible support?

Met three Celtic fans in the airport yesterday.
They were banging on about the atmosphere, the empty seats, the shit construction of the Etihad and how it was all aluminium (obviously not builders then) and finished by saying the swamp was a better atmosphere.
I said you clearly haven't been recently, no it was the Roy Keane testimonial lol

Didn't have the heart to tell them I nearly didn't go as I couldn't be arsed watching our reserves, and then I asked them the name of the lad who scored.

They were deluded and full of their own worth, a laugh really as they were as rough as fuck

For what it is worth: I am from Germany and a couple years back a friend of mine got a trip to Glasgow as a birthday present and it included two tickets to Celtic - Aberdeen (who were pretty decent back then if I remember correctly).
We were both looking forward to the atmosphere as everybody we talked to was going on about how great the atmosphere is etc. The trip was absolutely great, I liked Glasgow, met nice people, had a lot of beer but in terms of atmosphere this was a complete disaster.
If anyone really considers this support as the best in Europe or the world, then I recommend you visit a couple of games in Croatia, Greece, Poland or Argentinia.

Bundesliga atmosphere is pretty decent, but it is miles behind the above mentioned countries. However compared to what I was able to witness in Glasgow back then, its on another level as well.

I am not talking about attendances, just about the atmosphere generated by the crowd.

Just had to respond to this one, have you been to a ground in Croatia, Greece, Poland or Argentina yourself?

This chap here is from Argentina ironically, most likely the best footballer that has ever lived too...

Yup, guess he's wrong as are all the other top footballers and managers that have played there.

Granted your own experience at Celtic Park may not have been great but I'm sure you probably would have realised that when you went, Celtic's main rivals were demoted to the 3rd division and as a result Scottish football in general suffered. Looking at Celtic's average attendance figures, there was a clear dip when Rangers were demoted and when they were eventually promoted again this season, the attendance figures have since rocketed. (55k+ average) Try and get tickets for a Champions League or Rangers game, there's a night and day difference.

I leave you with this video here...

Celtic away from home against Kilmarnock, they filled 3 of the 4 main stands and the atmosphere they created and the way it come across on TV was unreal. Only a 15k crowd or so there that day but that's what people are talking about with the Celtic support. Can you find me a better video where the atmosphere comes across better please?

There are thousands of Celtic atmosphere videos on YT, the first Celtic vs Man City game was good I thought, much better than anything you get in the English premiership, Barcelona you'll never walk alone video here is probably the best you'll get (Still gives me goosebumps watching it from 1min+) ...

Sorry guys, but nowhere in the English premiership can they create a noise like Celtic Park can, too many plastic corporate touristy fans you see ;)

If you guys can bang on about how good the English premiership is and how good Man City are (Since 2008) then us Celtic fans can keep bleating on about our support, the fact we hold attendance records and the fact that we have won the big cup and you haven't ;)

See you guys again next year, this time hopefully we will beat you home and away. On reflection, Celtic deserved all 6 points against your lot. Ahead 4 times, pegged back 4 times ;)

Will log on again in an hour to see how many more bites there are.

Classic Brendan Rogers.

You only get good crowds if Rangers are also in the league with you? And that's supposed to be an argument in your favour?

@CBhoy67: I honestly can´t remember when I was at Celtic Park (must have been around 2005-2006?) but it was definitely before Rangers got demoted. I talked to a Celtic supporter at work once I have been back and he told me that if I didnt like the atmosphere against Aberdeen I need to go and see a derby, thats how I know that it must have been before Rangers got down.

I know the Celtic videos on the web and they are the reason why I was so hyped for the trip to begin with, as I was expecting this to be the "norm".

In my opinion everyone is biased towards their club but I personally find it cringeworthy if Celtic, Liverpool, Dortmund etc. are crowned the "best support in the world" when it is clearly not the case.

Messi can talk as much as he want about atmosphere and how amazing it is. You do realize that every footballer tries to "please the crowd" and come up with what people want to hear?

Whenever Liverpool is playing a German team on TV the pundits are full of the "amazing Anfield road atmosphere" bullshit. If you have been there on a normal league day you most likely would disagree with that myth. Every coach (including Klopp himself) talks about the great atmosphere, same with players. Do you honestly think that for Klopp, someone who spent years at Dortmund, the atmosphere at Anfield is something worth mentioning?

Again, I am not trying to put Celtic and their support down, however sometimes its better to take a step back and take a realistic view at things (that includes me as well...I support a club which has the reputation to be among the best in Germany and still I realize that the atmosphere in Poland, Greece and Argentinia is better).

Potty! You can equally argue you deserved fuck all as you cannot keep a lead against our 1st team or reserves, despite your 'amazing atmosphere'.

But yet Celtic were without 3 of their usual starting 11 too.

Tierney
Sinclair
Toure

So the argument of fielding a weakened team works in both directions surely? Regardless, Celtic matched you like for like in the 3-3 when you had your full strength IN FORM team. Celtic could have won that on Tuesday and you know fine well they could have, more shots, more shots on goal, more clear cut chances missed etc.

Sane cost you boys £40m, 1 player that started on Tuesday that was 'worth' more than the Celtic team combined, so lets not talk of weakened sides, it only weakens your argument.

Bambeltown, I keep hearing about these amazing supports in other countries but when I go to YT to catch a glimpse of these supports, I'm always feeling a little underwhelmed when comparing it against Celtic's best. Here in Britain, I don't think there is a better support, old Trafford gets a reputation for being a ghost town, the Etihad has got a reputation (rightly or wrongly no idea) of being the Emptihad. Liverpool have stepped it up a notch since expanding their ground but apart from Walk alone at the start, they have very little else in their song book and it goes quiet for the majority of the remaining 90mins. Newcastle and Sunderland are I would say the best in England personally, Crystal palace also have a good support.

Words fail me

The long and short of it is - Celtic raise thier game V big teams from big league because, quiet frankly, you used to be important but aren't anymore(on a European scale). It appears, the club has a chip on it's shoulder and wants to shout the loudest because your football can't do the talking

Woah steady lads, let's not be too harsh on Celtic.

They managed to get 14,858 in the QF of the Scottish Cup last year...
