the myth of celtic and their incredible support?

2012-2016 was the period Rangers went down

2017 season, they come back up.

Average league attendance 2017;

Celtic - 55,590
Man City -54,242

With our appalling league against some very small teams (Patrick Thistle etc) we are still beating your attendances.

That's not including the Champions League figures (6 games) which 57k+

Let's not make this into an attendance willy waving contest as Celtic are in front ;)

And let's not forget the records held by Celtic in the league and in European competition too ;)

And yep, I wonder if Man City will take 100k fans to a Euro final? Erm, nope.

Official figures were 80,000 fans but with some sources quoting between 80-100k. Either way, an incredible following where I've yet to witness any other team better (other than Rangers unfortunately but that was only 3hrs down the M6 and abroad so doesn't count ;) ) Man United took 40k to their European Cup final for example. Both Scottish clubs far exceeding that.

love your ability to be selective, so what about the 78 seasons city had bigger crowds, and on the whole averaging 4000 more, btw, how often do you pay 58 quid for a ticket, my guess, never.

Also i notice in a lot of your seasons, you have some huge crowds, and then many under 10000, are they the days when the ferries are on strike, or just can't be arsed.

Must be killing you to know for a "FACT", that over the courses of our histories, the giant that is Celtic, actually hasnt had as many through the gate, as little old city, not conjecture, not hearsay but "FACT".

Well it isn't really a myth is it? They were in a European final back in 2003 and took over 100,000 to Spain. Rangers were in a European final in Manchester and brought over 200,000 to Manchester.

How many English teams would do that? Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea certainly never took anywhere near those amounts of fans to their 'recent' European cup wins.

You do realise that the figures you have posted there dipped heavily when Rangers were demoted to the 3rd division. When the league turns into a one horse race and you have Wednesday night games against Partick Thistle, of course they are not going to sell out their 60000 capacity. However, you will also note that pre 2008/9 when games were played on Saturday and Sundays only, the average attendances were close to capacity. You will also note that when Rangers were promoted last year, the big jump in numbers again. In addition to all of that, those stats are for league games only. No European figures included in those averages which are all pretty much sell out.

For the big European games and Rangers games, the stadium is always at capacity.

I cannot believe I am reading this from a Man City fan personally? Your stadium is at 3/4 capacity week in week out, every week with thousands of seats on display but yet your 'official' figures are fudged to show near capacity. Even against the big teams, Chelsea on Sunday for example, you failed to sell out.

When Lionel Messi states that Celtic Park has the best atmosphere and fans in Europe then it's probably worth taking note. He knows a bit more about football than your average City fan ;)

I'm not quite sure what the point of this post is to be fair? Celtic fans created an atmosphere in the Etihad last night, if it weren't for them filling all your empty home end seats, the stadium would have looked miserably empty. Celtic were at capacity against you lot when you appeared
So basically Celtic are dependant on Rangers and matches being played at the weekend to get a decent crowd. City's stadium is probably 95% full every league game. A few hundred empty seats in line of camera doesn't mean it's a quarter empty. Like the OP stated Celtic are deluded.

Average attendances. Judge for yourself @CBhoy67. Check out 1967 when you won the European Cup and was your most successful season ever.
Year City Celtic
1985 24220 20827
1984 25604 18390
1983 26789 23740
City were relegated in '83 and spent the next 2 seasons in the old 1st Division.

Fuck me, even Samaras did a decent job in Scotland. They would be lucky to qualify for the Europa League down here. Very lucky.

Maybe via a cup. No chance of qualifying via the league. Isn't 5th the only EL spot guaranteed in the league (unless the cups go to sides who finish in the top 4)?

Arsenal
Chelsea
Liverpool
Spurs
Us
Southampton (arguable)
Everton (likewise)
West Ham (again, likewise)

All better sides than Celtic, IMO.

Two Bob one/two team league has helped Celtic become a legend in thier own lunchtime, apart from Scotland nobody cares or gives a fuck about them.

Not really sure why anyone cares about attendances, that's normally the preserve of United and Arsenal fans.

Don't think there's much doubt that Celtic have a larger worldwide fanbase than us. I'd rather be in our position though, obviously.

Not sure why my posts are under moderator approval? There's nothing offensive in the content?

Either way, am I reading the thread correctly? Are Manchester City fans having a pop at Celtic fans for their support? Really?

I wonder how so many top European footballers and managers have it so wrong but a few Man City fans have it so right.

I know this is a City forum, but come on guys, Jesus.

We have had higher attendances than you more seasons than not.

Empty seats at Parkhead every week.
