The New House of Commons Speaker

So you do think that the editor of Newsnight was lying? Starmer had a private meeting with him (Hoyle)

Not hard to join the dots here.
That was just to give him a pep talk (no pun) about how great a job he's doing.

That’s not what the editor of newsnight said. They don’t have to be mutually exclusive though.

Are you seriously trying to argue that Hoyle wasn't leaned on?

Or are you just triangulating?

I wasn’t arguing whether I thought he was or wasn’t, just saying the accusation that Watt said wasn’t that Starmer leant on him like you were saying and whether he was leant on or not doesn’t mean Watt was lying either.

Personally, I watched the whole debate and I’d be very surprised if he was. I don’t rate him at all but I don’t think he’s either clever or stupid enough (and you’d have to be at the outer edges to do it) to go on record saying it was untrue.

The more worrying thing outside of the political circus that most of today has been is his stated reasoning for doing it. Had he said it earlier in the day, maybe the conservatives wouldn’t have pulled their motion.
