Pep signs new contract until 2025 (p 1262)

I hear what‘s said in public but actions speak louder than words.

Even after last season’s COVID restart, when the League was long lost, the youngsters other than Foden were hardly given a run-out. And if hadn’t been for top 4 being more or less in the bag, and Foden grabbing his opportunity by the scruff of the neck, how much would we have seen of Phil?

Unfortunately, there’s also pressure to avoid pissing off established fringe players by playing them in “easier” games - depending on their faces. In fairness there is balance to be struck but a bit more towards our academy prospects would be welcome. It might even avoid another £50m signing in the not too distant future.

He feels he needs to keep the senior players match fit and not ruin moral.

Does it really make a difference how long a manager’s contract is for?

IIRC, the rags signed the Football Genius on a 5-year agreement. He lasted all of 5 minutes.

In practice, performance matters far more than the nominal length of contact.

Edit. Just seen someone mention Pardew. His contract was even longer.

Go on then, give us recent examples of successful teams with long serving managers. Because I can't think of any.

People might want a long term manager but we don't need one. There's no reason to think otherwise.

Edit: and Chelsea are the second most successful English club of the last decade after us.
And our four PL titles in this period were under three different managers.

Time wont forget what Pep has achieved domestically with ourselves, however these last 2 years are going to be pivotal in how he will be remembered - both us as fans but also how the media will run with it

Pep finds himself in a scenario he has never had to fathom let alone manage - a rebuild

After 18 months of dropped form, loss of intensity etc etc it is paramount that this shuffle of the pack will not only bring instant results but also leave the building blocks for whoever comes after

2 years is not that long a period in footballing terms, so the signings are going to have to be both young enough but of a super high quality so they can hit the ground running

Question is, will that be achievable as the holy grail of the CL title is going to be super high on the agenda

Pep is going to be remembered on how he handles this rebuild of the squad and what it achieves for the remainder of his time

Not much pressure then, but one he and those that are involved need to get right

I repeat, he picks the player's coaches them and sets up the tactics before and during the game. Although Rodders isn't up to the job, that's not through lack of effort.
Signing Mahrez as talented as he is, made no sense then and less now. Who pushed that deal?

Wasn't Mahrez signed since we missed out on Sanchez ?
