As far as I know yes, but a direct free kick is now given as I think the indirect free kick is only used now for a back pass, but I could be wrong

I think it does, but only in the sense that it is a foul like any other. They abolished the indirect free-kick for obstruction a few years ago which was the right decision imo as indirect free kicks in the area were an absurdity.
