Here's a confession: I've never liked The Office. (Although weirdly I've liked everything else I've seen of Ricky Gervais.)

Phoenix Nights is the clear winner for me.

Phoenix Nights all day every day, also provided me with one of the funniest moments ever in real life.
It literally replicated the scene of Peter Kay leading the DWP investigator up the stairs on his chair lift, except it was an old lady in the chairlift and my 6’2 25 stone shaven headed workmate , taking one step at a time behind her, then a voice shouts from nowhere “Just wait til I get you up these stairs, the things I’m gonna do to you!”.

Luckily the old girl had a sense of humour, but we couldn’t work for the next hour giggling like school girls, maybe you just had to be there.

Phoenix Nights every time. Especially against anything with Ricky Gervais in it, took a dislike to him and his comedy style ever since I first saw him, I think on not the 9 o clock news or something. Him, Michael McIntyre and Miranda can all do one.

Best phoenix nights moment, so many and the jokes are layered so it takes multiple watches to see them all. Clinton Baptiste, the captain, on the bus with chips, the stairlift...so many! Oh, and the auditions at the end, apparently some of the acts didn't know it's wasn't real?

It won’t be Not The 9 O’clock News, that was years earlier. I first saw him on a chat show on Channel 4, possibly Jonathan Ross, and he was making uncomfortable sexual jokes about very young girls. Didn’t think he’d amount to much but that shows what I know, I had the same opinion of Walliams and Lucas when they were known as Mash and Peas.

The Office was clever and excruciating but not funny. PN was laugh out loud funny, and the humour was warmer. PN every time. I regularly go on to YouTube to watch the odd episode (and the outtakes).

The Office was a brilliantly groundbreaking comedy. The American Office was super slick and very funny although seriously ran out of steam when Michael moved on.

Phoenix Nights was very British and understated. I don’t think I’ll ever get fed up with it. Although I feel the same way about Early Doors

Agree that’s when it should have ended

Pheonix nights

The office was one joke, repeated to good effect mind

The office US meh, Park and Recreation was much better.

Early Doors better than all 4

Parks & Rec was/is great.

It’s full of West Wing references and in lots of ways it’s a West Wing satire. They even cast Rob Lowe.

It’s a much cleverer show than I imagine a lot of people who watch it realise.
