The Origin of the 'Clarkie'

As I remember, a poster from Northern Ireland going by the username of clarkie_ni or similar, responded stupidly to a blatantly sarcastic post from someone. It turned into an epic thread which spawned a catchphrase that has been used on this forum for years now (scary how quickly time has passed).

My memory of the exact details of this post are sketchy and the OP seems to have vanished along with the thread - can someone please fill in the missing details?

I can tell you all about Ajay "he said yes" (Kaka text) or Dave who faked his death and became Gina, but I can't remember how Clarkie happened.

The original post was about a game being postponed because a united player was injured. I think the player concerned was Fletcher. It was obvious to all the post was meant in jest, but Clarkie steamed in with all guns blazing, saying it was a disgrace as nobody had died.

He disappeared from the board for a while, probably a good two years or so, but he returned to much popular acclaim a good while later with the thread title 'I'm back', or something like that.

He did, as he readily admitted, totally miss the irony of the original post.

I feel I must jump to Clarkies defence here. If he did disappear it was only for a few weeks at most and then came back and said "fair play" then he has carried on posting as normal ever since.

I wasn't knocking him, as he came back with good grace and took it on the chin, so to speak, which he would as the posts on his return were very friendly.

He vanished from the board for longer than a few weeks, though, hence his post 'I'm back' or 'fair play'.

He can tell us himself how long he was away.

If I remember correctly it was a sarcastic post in relation to Fletcher being sent off against Arsenal in the CL, meaning he would miss the final and the OP was something along the lines of a memorial game being played to mourn the occasion haha
