The photos thread

Is this dude cool or what? He came to visit yesterday morning, and stayed in the shade for the whole day, taking his own sweet time. Not a butterfly. A moth. According to the Wiki entry, get this, 89% of them have been wiped out in the UK. So he's a rare kind of guy. Testimony to the good health of my son and daughter-in-law's garden (no chemicals, no pesticides whatsoever, and a bit like a jungle in places — in short, my ideal garden). Sadly, he was gone this morning. I suppose, off doing mothy things.
He's also phenomenally well-protected against predators. He emits some sort of ultra-sound that the bats don't like at all at twilight, and he's got poison sacs so that he tastes absolutely foul if a bird takes a bite out of him. Most birds are well-warned in advance. Some stupid birds do it, and get seriously ill.
He's also staggeringly beautiful. My granddaughter, immediately seeing it from the kids' angle, said that his marking would be uber cool for trousers or a jacket design.

Bassin de Thau, south of France. Dawn in winter, 2019.

Reminds me of looking at Howth Head, but I’m never out there at dawn. I’d imagine that’s how it would look though.

When browsing through my photos and videos for a view of Howth Head, I realised I have some stunning sunset captures in winter, looking the opposite way, obviously, down Dollymount Strand and dunes, back towards the city.

I suppose I have found it hard to go through most of them up until now as most of them involve the late Cooper.

Here’s a selection of Winter moods.

It's what Turner understood so well.
In many ways I prefer winter photos to summer ones. Where is Howth Head, exactly?
Your dog likes fossicking around, doesn't he?
Did love.
Poor dog died a few days before his 2nd Birthday which would have been 30th of June.

Howth Head frames the North end of Dublin Bay.
I have a ton of photos/videos taken from Bull Island/Dollymount Strand which is essentially a sandbar running along the northside of the bay from the North Bull wall of the port entrance back towards Howth.

There’s a wooden bridge and a newer causeway in the middle of the island joining it to the mainland at Clontarf and St. Anne’s Park, from which I have another ton of photos/videos.

I agree with you. I think the winter light is much more interesting and varied.

Ah now, of course! Should have picked it up. Howth Castle and Environs, or Here Comes Everybody (Finnegan's Wake).
Sorry about your dog. They can be very good companions, can't they? By the way, was his name inspired by Interstellar, by any chance?

Nah. He was called Champ by the lady I got him from. But myself, the missus and my young lad looked at him and thought, he doesn’t look like a Champ.
He’s mad, but a beautiful colour. Red or Copper….. let’s call him Cooper. He looks like a Cooper.

Simple as that.

Howth Head in the background.
South of the Wooden Bridge, looking at Bull Island behind the North Bull wall, sweeping past the port entrance down the South Wall to the port and city.

North of the wooden bridge doing a similar sweep.
