No, not the band.

Seriously considering quitting my current job and joining the force, is anyone on here currently working as a copper? If so, good points, bad points etc would be great.

Ta.

I guy at my work was just in the process of joining up, was about to go for his medical thing, but then i left my job so i don't know how he got on. He seemed pretty enthusiastic about it, and is one of a very few people i have met that i would trust with any sort of real responsibility.

I would love a job in the Police i imagine it would be fascinating, afraid nowadays though my record would most certainly not be appropriate or fit there criteria.

Thats why Im applying now and not in a couple of years :@)

I had an interview a few month ago for a PCSO. The application forms are a pain in the arse to fill in (you need to think very carefully what you say). The PCSO form was a pain, but the real police one is even worse (its got a few more questions).

There were a few thousand applicants and I managed to get an interview with them (I was told that only about 130 people were picked for interview). Had my interview but didnt get any further. I think there were 30-40 jobs going.

I would certainly give it a try though. I know that when I finish uni in 3 years, then I will be applying for the police.

Are you any good with paperwork? There is a hell of a lot of paper work being in the police

Im at university in sheffield and was considering going into he police afterwards, but a couple of weeks ago a mate was pissing on a wall after a night out(stupid thing to do) and 2 unmarked police cars pulled onto the curb agressively 5 or 6 police men and once woman got out 2 of the men jumped onto the lad and started hitting him in the face when the other lads were asking why they were doing it the woman hit 2 lads in he face. That incident plus what my cousin went through in the force has changed my opinion and would never think about going into it again. Alot of tham(not all) beleive they above the law, and from what my cousin said they a very incestuous bunch and don't get on with other officers who don't socialise with them outside work.

My son in law was considering joining when he graduated from uni. Despite getting a degree in electronic engineering, the only way into the South Yorkshire force was by ticking the disabled candidate box(he is dyslexic). Unless you are a minority, I wouldn't bother applying.

I have two B-I-L's, both in CID, one loves it, loved uniform as well, really nice guy. The other was close to quitting a couple of years ago, felt disillusioned with the job. He was pissed off that he'd put like months of work into a case only for the courts to be way too easy on the criminals. Apart from that he must still enjoy the job, cos he's still doing it. If I wasn't hung like a donkey and so able to have a career in the porn industry, I'd fancy being a copper meself.

My Sister and Brother in Law retired from the Police around ten years ago and my younger Brother is a sergeant in the Devon constabulary and has been in for twenty years now (fuck that's gone quick)
Times have massively changed. My sister said that Life on Mars was the Police Force she joined and she doesn't know how my Brother puts up with the procedures that have to be followed.

I don’t want to dampen your enthusiasm mate, but policing 2008 is totally different to policing just 30 years ago, a mate of mine in the force now detests his job, it is now top heavy with political correctness, you know the stuff what you can say or cant say, and seminars every few months all about the same stuff, he enjoys the policing side but again says just doing his job is frustrating because of bureaucracy involved in apprehending criminals, also progressing through the ranks is no longer based on your merit as a police officer but your gender and ethnic orientation to meet quotas that discriminate against white male officers. If you don’t mind all that then give it a go.

Good luck………..

Shoplifters of the world unite is the most played on my iPod.

I love walking round Tesco with it on

Edit: Wrong thread. SHIT

I dont understand why anyone would want a job where you have to constantly deal with scumbags on a day to day basis, that you would never in a million years want anything to do with if you didnt have to??? Oh yeah, you have to deal with the criminals aswell..... ;)
