The Positives Thread 2019/20

Not in a bad way, but the stress of the title race is off my shoulders after today, honestly, if we come back, it'll be great, if not, we have the cups. I remember having the piss took out of me in school when we were relying on Sir Joseph of Barton to carry us, so when you look at it that way, it's honestly not that bad.

I know we've expectations given the money and our success as of late, but it's not all that bad. Disappointing, sure. Not the end of the world though. I think we'll be reet, even if the scouse ****s are gonna be smug for the next ten years over one title win.

And honestly, as long as it's not the rags, I don't give a fuck. I don't live in Liverpool.

This is where I'm at really. I used to dream of seeing City at Wembley, maybe sneaking a League Cup. This year isn't our year, and be shocked if we don't win something.

Me too. Now the title has gone we can go for the Carabao and FA cup. Providing we get our act together a domestic double is still on the cards.

It has been, and still is, a privilege to see the quality of football on display in sky blue these days. Pep’s philosophy, as has been taken on by every age group, has cemented City as a force to be reckoned with for the foreseeable future, whether he stays longer or not.

Having seen certain players (David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Joe Hart, Fernandinho, and Sergio Aguero) play the best football of their careers for City (and even a ridiculously strong end of career cameo by Yaya Toure) has been a privilege, and the success they have brought City will stand as a testament to their world class abilities, as they dragged our local Manc club into the upper reaches of world football.

No matter where this club goes from here, having been a fan since the glory days of the late 60s and early 70s, yet living to see this past decade of stratospheric growth and development, has been an absolute pleasure...even given the lows and lower lows of the intervening years! However, in Typical City fashion, even those lows created Typical City Highs at Wembley against Gillingham. Being the one Bluemooner who will admit to NOT being at York away, I have to say that Gillingham game was eclipsed only by the Agueeeeeeeero moment, but they have provided Typical City bookends that FINALLY broke the hoodoo that was dark, cold shade that lasted almost half a century.

Being a Blue used to result in a constant stream of derision and gloating by reds of both stripes (Rags and Dippers), but the last decade has placed us squarely on the top step of the podium, with the only thing missing being a Champions League Trophy. This season? I certainly hope so for the likes of some of the men listed above, especially watching David Silva lift that trophy to round out a career that will have seen him win EVERYTHING there was for him to win.

Once a Blue, ALWAYS A BLUE.

I personally am still basking in the May 2012 miracle, watching that on Youtube (which I do frequently) I just can not help myself from punching the air in delight. To have followed that up with three more PL titles and the Cup wins is just unbelievable.

We have as MCFC fans been well and truly blessed since the take over.

this I watch it at least 2 a week and the tyler (I know) 'Manchester City are still alive here, Balotelli, Agueroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo' is still my text and email message tone !!

As an antidote to the election nonsense I have been looking at City’s season in stats. I know that some people pay them no heed but I though I’d see if we were doing as badly as it seems. I have compared the stats with Livarpool and Leicester as well as the rags.
Shots: City 337, LFC 258, LCFC 240, MUFC 224. I will keep the following numbers in that order, with City first and utd 4th.
On target: 112, 102, 87, 86 (City 1st)
Hit woodwork: 12, 4, 4, 7 (City 1st)
Crosses: 457, 373, 337, 286 (City 1st)
Corners: 150, 96, 107, 91 (City 1st)
Big chances missed: 40, 30, 25, 22 (City 1st)

Offsides: 40, 21, 27, 22 (City 1st)
Yellow cards: 31, 16, 17, 34 (LFC and LCFC bottom 2)
Clean sheets: 5, 3, 7, 2

All this seems to suggest that all is not quite as bad as we are making out and that a better shot conversion and a basic way of scoring from corners would have seen us right up there. Cheered me up a bit anyway.......

It is always about fine margins. We have only slipped a bit but it has hurt us a lot. It's funny how the narrative changes purely on the score not the actual performance. On another day Chelsea could have beaten us by three or four goals and we should have put five past Newcastle. There was little difference in our performances in both those games. United hammered us for 30 minutes but we should still have got a draw based on the second half. I think the players are just mentally tired. Bernardo and Raheem in particular have just played too many games in the last 18 months at club and international level. Burn-out is a big issue in the modern game. Last season was an epic performance but it has taken a lot out of us (fans included!)

If our slump and injuries mean we get to see if Jesus is the real deal or not along with Foden then we will all at least know if they are the longer term solutions or not.

The youngsters are great.

Foden, Jesus, Garcia, HB.

Need to start giving three of them a chance, especially Foden.

My conclusion based on your statistics TLWYS, is that we are being royally screwed over by the Whistling Wankers. We haven't fouled one single fucker all season and we've got 31 yellow cards. Jeeeeeezus!

I am amazed that none of you have reacted to the news that Laporte is now at the academy training on the pitches. Not playing football, but he's on grass. That's massive news.

It's good news but that tells us something which we didn't know? I mean, does it imply he will come back earlier than planned? I'm not sure.

Good news though. We are missing him a lot. He will need a month to hit form, so hopefully he will be back to his best for the 2nd leg in the last 16 in the CL.
