The Post Transfer Deadline Day (positive) Thread

Our finish to the deadline was a bit disappointing but overall we did very very well this season. I'd say only PSG is able to say that they've done better than us this transfer window. Imagine flipping our transfers around - Imagine us missing out on Sanchez in May because Arsenal refused to sell, and on the the very last day of the deadline day we manage to sign Bernardo. This thread would be full of gifs!

Yeah. Not sure that Sagna/Nacho were the answer or that keeping them would've made a big difference. But overall we've potentially left ourselves a little too light.

But. Like someone else has just said. The fact that we for the first time have a small squad with 99% of the 'deadwood' gone is huge. As Pep keeps saying he's building for the next five/ten years so bringing the average age down whilst losing old players isn't a bad thing.

Will be interesting to see if he continues with the "buying players is nothing to do with me" or whether he'll break from that routine and comment on what happened with Alexis.

After a long day/night last night mostly i'm delighted that we can go back to just talking about football for a few months.

Unless we have some sort of horrific injury epidemic, we should have sufficient depth and quality to get to January and still be in contention for major honours. Obviously, the players we do have need to perform to something like their best but that will always be true, however large the squad is.

We have had a very good transfer window but it has fallen short of great at the last hurdle. We never had enough FFP leeway to sort every position. We do however have several players who can play in more than one position.

Hopefully we will get to buy Sanchez for a knockdown price in January and maybe have the cash to spend on another player to fill whatever turns out to be the most glaring gap in the squad, be it centre back, defensive midfielder or back-up left back.

We have a squad packed with ability but a little light on muscle; however, Pep should be able to get this squad playing winning entertaining football. We will all need to show patience though because the bulk of our opponents will try to spoil the party by packing their defences...

Not really its about time the club got rid of all the deadwood. We haven't even had a title challenge the past three years as the squad had become so stale. Also he seems a top guy but Kelechi wouldn't have played and we got great money.

Ederson/Bravo

Walker/Danillo/Fernandinho
Kompany/Mangala
Otamendi/Stones
Mendy/Danillo/Fernandinho

Fernandinho/Yaya/Gundogan

Then the five forward positions to be filled in by

Gundogan
Sterling
KDB
Silva
Sane
Jesus
Aguero
Brahim
Foden
B. Silva

Without doubt this is the best squad we've ever had

Obvious weakness -

Over reliance on an injury prone Kompany

Questions over whether Fernandinho can do the holding job plus Toure is on his last legs, surprised we didnt keep that douglas luiz as he looks a top player already.

Lack of goals from midfield which why I was gutted we missed out on Sanchez

No settled system

ive popped bernado silva on your list as well mate. it truly is a world class bunch of players. very exciting.

i also think that "no settled system" is something that pep is working on purposefully. the flexibility for switching and interchanging to suit the opponents or situation could be the difference this season. so it could end up being a positive in the long run.

Agree with Dreadzone. Great window. You can't always get what you want. For me the biggest plus is the large number of players who are 23 or younger . Don't care if we don't win title this year, because this team can grow and grow together. If promise is fulfilled, imagine Sane, Jesus, Mendy, Sterling, Bernardo, Foden, Stones and others in a couple of years, all playing the Pep way. Beats the Poyser way ! Stand by for some great City times. Liddle Citeh will be, er...massive.

Bernado may prove to be the best bit of business anyone did in this window.

4 months until we can go back for Sanchez.

4 months should be enough time for Arsenal to get Lemar or another player.

I'm sure all parties involved will have everthing sorted in advance this time.

No settled system

We've also got Bernado, Delph and Zinchenko.

I don't agree that no settled system is a weakness. We have a very clear way in which Pep wants us to play and tactical variations, including the use of 3 CB's don't add up to lack of a settled system in my eyes. Tactical flexibility should be a strength and I believe it will be. I've repeated this a few times but Pep has said in the past that every team he fields essentially ends up playing 3 - 4 - 3; it's just that the first 3, could be 3 CB's or 2 CB's and a DM.

I had a the same sick feeling as City losing a match this morning. Gutted! After coming to my senses I still think we're in a fantastic position barring injuries to key players. Hopefully we can manage to get him in January which would give us a major boost in the latter part of the season. Could be a blessing in disguise
